No.
Ancient Europeans wrote about Ages of Man.

There are also many other references to various
types of world ages or Ages of Man in Hopi
(worlds), Mayan (suns) and other cultures of
antiquity. Giorgio de Santillana, the former
professsor of the history of science, mentions
approximately thirty ancient cultures that
believed in the concept of a series of ages and
the rise and fall of history, with alternating
Dark and Golden Ages.
More details of these Ages are available in the
Yuga concept of the Hindus. The present age
is known as Kali Yuga (age of darkness).

One visioner wrote:
"From 2010, winds of spiritualism will blow across the
entire world, awakening more and more people in its wake. Where limits
of (modern) science end, spiritualism begins. .... Along with scientific
progress, intellectuals will start recognizing the importance of
spiritualism. .... From 2050, a new era will begin...."

I can't say for certain, and self destruct does seem a drastic term!!
However we need to look at a couple of things, the most important is the type of world economy.
We live in a finite biosphere, modern society i.e. present day society uses many resources, such as oil and food.
Oil seems to be running low as does food for some of the worlds population.
The model Of In English GDP (USA GNP) (ITA PIL) ect. is a ever hungry beast.
If this model continues we will be let to fight over the scraps!
As for total destruction even Albert Einstein was optimistic when he said
“I don't know what weapons will be used in world war three, but in world war four people will use sticks and stones.”
Thus showing a belief that some of us would survive to do it all again!
In the long term our only realistic chance of survival (If we don't get wipe out by large lumps falling from space (which with ample, planning and cooperation could be prevented) or the radiation from interstellar explosions (which can't)) is to change our way of doing things
An Autonomous egalitarian society is much more efficient than a hierarchical consumer society.
with the Technology we have now to help us the journey towards is less of a utopian idea than it first seem.
What is truly lacking though is the will of those you have the power to make these changes!
Finally Thank you Gee I know I will sleep much better tonight in that knowledge. lol

Not really. In every century there have been impediments to positive change just like the people who dont believe in climate change. But just like Copernicus, the unpopular ideas of today becomes the reality of the future. This is the reason why I think we wont self-destruct. We just adapt, and unlike before we now have high technology to do it.

I always thought the end of the world would be our own self-destruction. Slow and agonizing will the destruction be.

fingers crossed.
As for now there is a gross imbalance, masculine properties dominate [science, reason, logic, economy, war, knowledge]nothing wrong with these things we absolutely must have them. But there are no feminine properties -[wisdom,emotion,empathy,imagination, intuition] to marry them.So you get all sorts of imbalances, factions and problems within the world and within people. The world has aways worked best on harmonics/balance. Until there is some sort of merge/marriage I can't see anything but self destruction.
What we have now is only structure [like bones for the body] but no body,no flesh and blood.

We will.....eventually. Everything we have invented, we have done to anihilate the human race either systematically or insidiously. Guns, bombs, nuclear armaments(remember, there is nothing made by man that has not been used), nuclear waste affecting our enviroment...we take and don't give back to the enviroment like spoilt kids..from shootings in homes, to killings on the streets, to tribal warfare, to civil wars, to wars between countries, man's greatest injustice to man - killing one another for triffling things like land and money as if we were delivered from the womb with them...killing each other because of greed and pride....killing each other because we are different from one another... indefference to the sufferings of others....and the mass killings by those who weild power is the worst of all....instead of solving issues, they want to show off thier latest nuclear toys and cruise missiles. Who suffers the most for it? - Innocent women and deffenceless children. All for what?...Pride. We are full of pride and we will eventually and completely self destruct....unfortunately, you can't tell that to those megalomanic self centered world leaders sitting so high on thier high chairs and feeling great in the corridors of power, but when the day comes, they shall all fall with a big bang on thier butts and answer to a greater power above all ...those who have advocated for war instead of peace....injustice in the place of justice...self aggradisement and enrichment in the place of taking care of the poor and needy, wickedness in the place of compassion, killing and castigating others in the name of religion (when God himself is not religious) instead of compassionate tolerance...they have made themselves Judge, Jury and executioners....Why? For what reason?....Pride...I tell you Pride......Pride ......Comes....Before.....A....FALL.
"Nuff said....over and out.
