my adult cat has gotten jealous before with introducing a new kitten in the home and really jealous with kitten number two which we eventually gave up.
so she is the jealous type. im going to have a baby at the end of feb. and i wonder if she's going to be super jealous or what. we are just having a good time now bonding, since we got rid of kitten # 2, she's started to come around and be affectionate with me again and wanting atttention with me.
she does get a jelous look in her eyes when we start pulling out the baby things. i think she knows im pregnant.
anybodys cat get jealous after you have a baby?
do they ever go back to normal or does having a baby change the cat forever?
this cat likes to be the spoiled princess in a good way.

well when i was pregnant the cat my mom had use to lay on my belly and sleep there for hours! then when i had her the cat came up while i was nursing and sniffed her head and then tried to move her head with his paw but after that then he was ok but your cat seems real territorial so i would watch it near your baby. also the other cats too cats are the worst thing to have around a baby, they can suffocate them while they sleep.

im the same with my dogs im scared they are going to get jealous when my baby is born too, i read an article on it and it said that you should prepare your animals for the arrival, so you should carry around a fake baby and pretend your nursing it and if the cat goes ti jump up on your lap push her/him away and tell it "NO" in a sharp voice, also play a baby crying you can download the sound from a website, not sure which one though, just so t gets used to the sound and wont be alarmed when all of a sudden you bring home this baby that starts crying, and when the baby does come make sure you give the cat time as well, so when you are sitting without baby then its his/her time and dont change anything about the routine, keep where she/he sleeps the same and when he/she gets feed etc otherwise the cat will know a change it routine will be because of the baby and it could get nasty, just remember that cats can jump very high so never let the cat into the babys room where it can jump into the cot. but yes if its got jealous when you got another cat it will def not like a baby coming along

when bringing a baby home you need to be mindful that your pets can be jealous and possibly cause harm to the child if you totally ignore them. Try and give them some attention if they are previously used to it and try to get them used to being an outdoor pet most of the time if they are an indoor pet now. Usually its best not to have them inside due to allergies and smothering etc...

My mum and mother in law have always had cats and dogs and they haven't caused any problems to any babies in the house. Mostly they have been outdoor animals and only in sometimes at night or in rainy weather.

You just have to start now and remind the cat that it is not allowed in the babies room for starters (so it can't smother it). That might sound stupid, but if you see the cat heading in that direction, scold it and put it outside so it knows that room is off limits. Putting up a barrier that it can't get over rather than having to shut the door is also a good idea.

best of luck and congrats on the baby

I'm actually a little concerned that my cat will be jealous too!! He and I have a super close bond and I do admit to spoiling him when I see him now that I have moved out of home but when I go visit mum and lay down, he lies on my stomach and refuses to get comfortable any where else in the room. I always used to carry him around too and just cuddle him all the time so I do wonder what's going to happen when I cant pick him up coz I have the baby. I'd like to hope that he'll be ok, but I know exactly what you mean and hopefully our cats will take it ok. Take care and good luck!

No offense but your doctor didn't say anything about your cat? It's really not safe to have cats around babies, something in there poop can make the baby really sick even die. Dogs are better, but all animals are nasty.

who cares what your cat thinks. your baby will be first priority not the cat.
