b/c death has become taboo in our country.
people fear the unknown, not much is known about death, hence people fear it.
and it doesn't help any much more being that death is always censored in our culture. so it is a vicious circle.!!
in other cultures death is celebrated and honored. some people can't wait to die b/c their beleifs tell them they will go to a better place.
also with people living in fear of god (not me personally, but alot of other idiots do) they fear what will happen to them when they die, if they lived a good life or not and will goto heaven or hell.

We fear the dead because we can not see the dead like we see a person that is alive. We also fear the dead because we are scared of dying ourselves.

Because all these stupid movies that Hollywood and the West coast keeps making! Like resident evil and all those dead zombie movies or w/e .. They think they are going to leap up from the table and bite them to death and murder them... You should have no fear Gods allways with you all

Because it helps the living become obsessive compulsive.
Oh yeah and I forgot that some people believe in ghost's and haunting's. Also dead, decaying bodies have a tendency to harbor bad diseases and disgusting parasites.

Because the way the dead is portrayed is actually what makes them scary...all our lives, we are being fed with this notion that the dead are bad and do something bad to you

It is a human tendency to fear the unknown such as death and darkness. Once you know what it really is to die you just see it as another adventure in the journey of the soul.

not sure my boyfriend is a firefighter so it doesn't scare him at all but I can't see or be around anything dead. My pets die he has to get rid of them immediately (he gets mad he thinks I need to learn to say goodbye instead of holding it in) I guess with me I'm afraid of looking vulnerable. It weekens me! don't like it!

Because they wouldn't want to be one, and don't understand what death is, or for certain what happens (or doesn't happen) afterwards.
They fear what they don't understand.
