My boyfriend bought the Transformers HD DVD when it came out but realized he couldn't play it in his Xbox 360. Since he uses the console as his primary DVD player, I was thinking that that would make an awesome Christmas gift. Can someone tell me if there is a component so that he can watch his HD DVDs on his Xbox 360 and if so, where can I find it?

Thanks a million!

Hi,
I have Xbox 360 & Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on player. Your man he needs to buy the Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on player & it's now cost $179 & comes with 1 free King Kong on HD-DVD,free USB cord & free HD-DVD remote. You also get 5 FREE HD-DVD movies when you buy the Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on player. That's the total of 6 free HD-DVD movies. When you are ready to buy Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on player, print this page at

One more thing, once you man hooks his HD-DVD player to his Xbox 360, he needs to update the Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on player & has to go to Xbox.com & go to HD DVD Support.

Why? Because he could play more HD-DVD movies. If you have any questions, you could contact me if you wish & good luck!

Xbox 360 gamer & I support HD-DVD.

XBox 360 and Elite can only do HD-DVDs right now and only if you buy the separate player, though there have been rumors that Microsoft will have a BluRay player if BluRay does indeed win the format war (1st source). Yes, there are differences between the formats, mainly in storage capacity. BluRay discs can hold a lot more data than HD-DVD (BluRay = 27GB for single-layer, 54GB for dual-layer... HD-DVD is only 30GB) HD-DVDs tend to be cheaper, as well. (2nd source) Recommendations? Do you already own a 360? If so, that's probably the cheaper route. As far as visuals go, I have both, a 46" 1080p LCD, and you can't tell much of a difference. In the end, I'd say go for he 360 elite, because the 360 has more, and better games for the time being. If you don't care about games, PS3 may be a better idea, and even they will have a good library of games by the end of the year. Hope this helps!

The Xbox 360 console can only play standard DVD. In order for you to play high definition DVD, or HD-DVD, you need to buy a external HD-DVD player that hooks onto the XBox 360 console. Retail price for this HD-DVD player is $179.99 and comes with the movie King Kong in high definition. You can buy this at any retail electronics stores. After you purchase this HD-DVD player you can view any HD-DVD movie such as Transformers and there is a offer for five free movies in HD-DVD if you purchase this player. You have to fill out a form and select your movies and mail the form. See the link below for this offer.

You have to buy an HD-DVD player attachment. You can find them at just about any electronics store. Here's one:

A extra little HD-DVD drive has to be bought, quite expensive though.
