This question is especially for women, but I will ask the men too. My husband and I eat out often. We usually sit in a booth and if we sit on the same side of the booth, he will make me sit in the inside and he'll sit on the outside. He's the same way with a table. He has to be on the left side, in the left chair, at all times. He feels that it's gay for the man to be on the inside.
What's up with that?

Just to clarify, he'll make me sit on the inside and he has to be on the end.

I never thought of it but I think it does seem to be the 'weaker' position to be on the inside. So, yes, a guy would think it's 'gay'. I never encounter this because my husband always sits opposite me so we can talk across the table.

There's nothing gay about sitting on the inside of a booth. But its normal for men to sit aisle side in booths because it 'protects' the wife from anything that may happen on the aisle.... a brawl, a falling glass of water, turned over dishes, etc. He's a gentleman but maybe couldn't give you a straight answer when you asked him about it.

Maybe he just wants the extra space and does not want to be all closed in.
My guy will usually sit across from me if it is just us, but if we have to be in the same booth I am always on the inside. He says this is so he has lots of room and if something strange happens he can easily get up and protect us.
He always walks on the outside of the sidewalk for the same reason and its funny because sometimes we are walking and he will push at my hip and swing me around him to the otherside and then a few feet later I see a group of people walking our way that look like they may want trouble and he is on the side they are on.
This behaviour seems a little old fashioned but I think it is sweet and I always feel nothing but safe and secure with my man.
Perhaps more men nowdays should take this approach with their behavior, since men like my boyfriend point out those guys walking on the inside and he tells me that to people out there who are looking for trouble that is a sign of weakness and they are more likely to get into trouble because of it.
Its a crazy world we live in but I am glad I don't have to worry about all this protection stuff like he does, now if I could only manage to get his whites whiter.
If you really love him then forget about this one little strange thing even if it annoys you, he could have other womens numbers in his phone, be beating you up or doing drugs behind your back.

Some men are chivalrous and want to walk on the outside of the sidewalk next to the street, or sit on the outside of a booth, as a protective gesture. I don't think they feel that doing otherwise is "gay". Sounds like your guy is concerned with appearances, in a weird way. Personally if a guy is left handed I prefer to sit on his right, if he is right handed I would rather sit on his left ...that way you don't bump elbows. :)

Why would you want to be closed in like that i want to be comfortable with plenty of elbow room. I think it's gay to sit side by side in a booth, tell your husband the correct way is to sit opposite each other when siting in a booth.

He sits on the opposite side of the table. We like to look at each other when we talk.

Why can't you just sit across from each other?
We only sit together if there are other people seated with us. And then, have to sit so it's comfortable to use my left hand while he uses his right hand, without jostling one another. Nothing "gay" about it.

My husband and I always sit across from each other, that way we could communicate with each other more.

she sits where she wants, i do not control her, nor do i try, for if i did that, she would feel like a caged animal...i have way too much respect for my wife to make her feel uncomfortable in any situation
