I know what a PC is and I know what a MAC is. I also know that the majority of PC's are sold with Windows. But to make a generalization like "PC's crash all the time" is kinda retarded.
Reason 1. A PC is hardware, not Windows. A poorly written OS would crash on a MAC, too.

Reason 2. Windows crashing all the time is a myth. When I used Windows, it almost never crashed. It's not common for OS X to crash, but it's definitely not normal for Windows either. People tend to exagerate when Windows does crash. Because , well, it's kind of "trendy" to hate microsoft.

When you think about it, there is little difference between a MAC and PC nowadays. MACs are using Intel processors, usb, pci, IDE, and MACs can run windows now.

Anyone remember using OS 9?
I remember using it in school and it'd crash all the time. Even more so than any version of Windows I've used

Good question. You can thank Microsoft for that. Most, and I mean most people don't realize that the hardware is different from the operating system.

Windows only works on Intel/AMD hardware, and only on a Personal Computer level, while Linux works on just about anything, which you already know.

You probably remember the days when you could buy a computer without an operating system and load what you want.

Windows has a 95% hold on the computer market, and while an OS and hardware are the same for a MAC, PC'es are offen sold with windows. And macs crash too, but i'd rather save 50% of the price and deal with a crash or 2.

Used to be one of the things you'd see under system requirements was "IBM PC compatible." This dates back before Macs were around, when Apple was making it's Apple II series computers and other stuff like the Amiga and Commodore computers were around. Most of those "IBM PC compatible" computers were eventually running some version of DOS. Eventually Windows came out that ran on top of the DOS operating system. Now Windows has more or less gotten rid of DOS. (At least to the end user.) At some point people shortened "IBM PC compatible" to PC.

On the other side of the equation, Apple based computers that weren't made by Apple were called Clones. And there weren't all that many of them because Apple couldn't handle the competition. Unlike IBM, which eventually lost control of the platform it invented, Apple has kept a rather tight rein on theirs. (Or at least has tried to.)

A PC normally has Windows software on it. Most PC's come with a Windows OS on it

PC generally means a non-Mac computer, simply because PC means personal computer, but Apple refers to their computers as Macs.

The reason "PC" and "Windows" are used interchangably is because Windows is by far the most common OS on PCs. Windows has far more users than, say, Linux operating systems.

And yes, PCs do suck. They crash all the time. I love my Mac. :-)

Here in PH, PCs are low cost and Microsoft Windows are reliable when comes in Application's compatibility.

Yeah, they crash but they can still be made stable by pros.

The only thing Apple did perfectly was patent its Mac OS to only run on its Apple Platform. Mac's can run Windows through an interface program know as Bootcamp.

PC's more customizeable so that where personal computer came from, so you can run Linux or Windows but not both.

Traditionally, there were PCs (IBM and compatibles) and Macs (Motorola based arhitecture). The Mac user swore that PCs sucked -- so bad that now their Macs ARE PCs :]
