Unless you are brilliant or going to a really bad school, it is definitely not easy or laid back. Most students work hard and play hard. Right now it is the end of the semester, and most of my students seem to be sick because between studying, work, and other responsibilities, they are just plain worn out. Yes, most students work. Some because they need the money, and others to get the work experience they need in order to be able to get a good job upon graduation.

It really depends on where you go, and your reasons for going to college in the first place.
Right now, I am definitely procrastinating, when I have a ot of work to do, so that is very stressful. It's the end of the semester, so there are final projects/papers due as well as finals. I have gotten very little sleep in the past 6 days (maybe 15 hours), but if I was a little better at managing my time, then it wouldn't be as stressful.
However, when it isn't the end of the semester, it's not so hard to have fun and still do well.
As for being easy? I always figured if college was easy, something was wrong (easy classes where I don't learn much, am not "applying myself" intellectually or otherwise, only doing the minimum required to get by). If college is easy, it seems like you don't get all you pay for.
I have held a job for every semester I've been in school, working anywhere from 5-40 hours/week. (I wouldn't suggest working for than 20, and only if you need the money). It seems like about 50% of the student body work, not including those who work less than 5 hrs/wk.

College is a great experience. If you really care about your G.P.A. then it is not laid back or easy. You won't have time for friends, TV, parties and stuff. If you live @ home you may not need to work but many college students do have to work to make ends meet. If you have a G.P.A. of 3.0 or above you may get scholarships and recommendations, get on the Dean's list and you will have greater opportunities within your university. You may travel to different cities, national and internationally to be part of conferences, study abroad and so forth. College can be the experience you want it to be.

College is what you make of it.... If you want to party and kick back then you can although just be sure you make time for the important things like studying, homework assignments, tests etc.... I worked two jobs while in college but, I still had a good time and made many, many lifelong friends. I knew many students that worked either on campus/off-campus it just depends on what you want/need to do.
Good luck

well, college is easier than high school because u r basically in control of everything here.....the teacher wont call u home if u r absent n plus u dont have to go to college every single day. however, college life isnt easy if u plan to move out of your parents' house. u might have to work for extra money. n if u r planning to take grants u must be a good student. failure in one class can put u in probation....n in many universities if u cant improve your gpa they can kick u out. partying is all upto u...it really doesnt matter.
i dont go around partying....n i really enjoy every moment of my college days.....it brings new stuff in life..u get to learn more about the world....in short, it gives u the chance to mature intellectually.

A college degree is a signal to future employees that you have accomplished something difficult (thereby distinguishing oneself from others who have not). If college is not hard, it is not a very good signal. In my opinion, if you choose a college (or a major in a college for that matter) that is not difficult or challenging, you are just wasting your time. If you budget you time right, there should be no problem finding time for leisure while you study. But don't fool yourself. If you are serious about college, invest the time and challenge yourself. I guarantee it will pay off for you in the end.

Hard work, hard work, hard work. You have time for friends...I wouldn't party too much. I have to work, part time though, full time student. It's just difficult sometimes, but it can be done. Going to college is hard work, just know that. You will have to work hard.
