Kim Gandy, president of NOW, is spending all of her time trying to get Imus off the air. Is this really the most important issue in the life of the average feminist?

Tera, he was fired 8 months ago, but has now been re-hired. People want to listen to him. You have no knowledge of Imus at all, as you've never listened to him. If you don't like him, don't listen to him. Where's your outrage about rap artists?

I don't really know anything about Kim Gandy or NOW or Don Imus, and so my answer will not reflect upon my opinion(s) of any of their personalities. The real gold lies in the actual question itself, though: "Is this really the most important issue in the life of the average feminist?"
I'm an average feminist, I like to think. And the idea that my brethren are focusing on issues as petty and inconsequential as getting a radio personality fired because "he hurt our feelings" is pathetic. I find him to be a jackass, of course, but to say that his existence keeps me up at night is one hell of a stretch.
There are more interesting things that a feminist could be focusing their energies upon. My particular area of interest is the lack of gender-neutrality in storytelling in popular culture. Women's stories don't often get told unless they involve a protagonist whose life is revolving around some new romance with a man. Men have plenty of movies where they get to discover something important about themselves without the help of a woman, but women apparently have nothing to offer storytelling unless they've got a man to dote over. How many times have you seen a film about a GIRL and her dog? How many times have you seen a GIRL want to win the big game more than anything in the world? How many times have you seen GIRLS act like genuine, irredeemable jerks? There are one or two exceptions, but girls' stories that don't involve boys or romance are for the most part ignored.
Yeah, that seems way more important to me than Don Imus.

I have no idea who Kim Gandy is, or what "IMUS" is, and I have no affiliation with NOW. Yes, I'm a feminist, but that doesn't mean I "follow" anyone else. I have my own beliefs, my own values, and I think for myself.
EDIT: I never said I haven't heard of NOW...I said I'm not affiliated with NOW. And I just read a little something about the Imus controversy- and it seems Kim is not the only one who is offended by Imus' comments- many other people are as well, and many want to see him resign. Frankly, I think his "nappy headed ho" comment is incredibly sexist and RACIST, and definitely offensive. I'm sure he's offended the black community just as much as feminists, and honestly, we all ought to be a bit upset. Why should this sort of thing be tolerated? True, there are bigger fish to fry...but he brought this upon himself. I really don't have any sympathy for the guy.
EDIT: You're right. I don't listen to him, and don't want to. And as for rap music, of the misogynistic type, I choose not to listen to that, either. I think it's terrible. I understand the right to free speech. But I don't have to listen to what offends me...and I certainly don't have pretend that people's words in the media don't have an impact on society (because they do.)

NOW has their Racial Diversity Program so it shouldn't surprise anyone that they are speaking up against Imus getting back on the air again. Is it the most important issue of the day? If you are a black woman it might be. I don't know, I don't presume to talk for all women or all feminists. But I do know that NOW is a large organization and they can multi task with the best so it doesn't matter what anyone thinks is the "most important" because they can go in more than one direction at a time.

Why do you ask loaded and ludicrous questions that have no actual basis in reality? You're pretty good at keeping tabs on what you think NOW is doing; I visit their website occasionally and didn't know - or much care - who Kim Gandy is. Where the hell do you get off jumping to conclusions and presenting them as fact? Is this the most important thing in YOUR life, skewed analysis so you can run back here in yet another useless attempt to make feminism look ridiculous? Or do you not understand a) what NOW is actually doing, or b) that Kim Gandy is doing much more that you're choosing to ignore? Imus is just one of many issues and not a very important one. But then . . . accuracy isn't your strong point, is it?

I've never even heard of her. Lat time I checked, it was people like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton who were trying to get Don Imus off the air.
Edit: Ave, you sound like you're talking about the over-used movie cliche called the "romantic comedy". Apparently, it's not possible to have a female lead unless she has a romantic interest. These movies get cranked out almost constantly and I don't know who actually likes them. I know that most men don't like them and I don't either. I guess it's a way to be able to use some of the more popular actresses without automatically casting them as the wife or girlfriend in other movies.

i like how when people say that don't follow or known of this Kim Gandy. You then imply they are less of a feminist.
YAY! for forcing you own beliefs of what feminist are on other people.
