Take a look at http://www.heifer.org/ ...It's an organization that helps impoverished countries by supplying them with "seed" animals, seeds for planting, etc...to start farming, with the agreement that they will share the wealth with their neighbors by giving them the first offspring of their animals, which means that one small gift can help an entire community or village. You can "buy" a flock of chicks for $20, and there are many gifts on the website from $10 up to the thousands. This is a very unique and meaningful gift, especially for someone who is interested in the environment and ending hunger and poverty. A family member received one of these gifts a few years back, and was awed by it--it started a chain reaction within the family of donating to this organization in the form of a gift to someone else, and every recipient has been awed by the gift! Good Luck & Merry Christmas!

I agree about making gifts, but sometimes, that's more expensive than just flat out buying gifts. Now BAKING gifts...great idea. Or even lotto tickets. Those are ALWAYS fun, whether you win or not. One year, I bought my aunts and uncles $5 scratch off tix and one of my aunt's won $100!!!! Even a quick pick for lotto is fun. Gift certs for gas, groceries, fast food restaurants are always good too. Most people buy all of the above anyway.

Do you have a Target nearby? They have a Dollar section, where everything is $1 right by the carts as you walk in, or visit a dollar store. Heck, even Wal-Mart, in their stationary department, has pads of paper, pens, magnets, etc. for $1 each....or go for make-up, lip gloss, or small stuff that you can fit into a stocking, but instead get some .25 bags (the cheap ones with no handles) and fill them up with goodies.

When I buy stuff for friends for Christmas, I buy a stocking for each one, there are like $1.50 at walmart, and use fabric paint to put their name on it. Some good (and cheap) things to stuff it with are cute socks (walmart has graphic socks for $1 a pair), nail polish, those facial packs (I have no idea what they are actually called, but if you go to walmart and go down the isle with the bubble bath and bath stuff they have these little facial things for around $1 each, they work really well and have different types), candy canes (you can get a 12 pack for $1 at walmart), lipsmacker chapstick (they have it in all different flavors), and other stuff like that.
You can make a really full and fun stocking for less than $10 for each one of your friends. And if you put more of the cheap candy in it you can get away with putting less of the stuff that costs more.

I wouldn't fret.. Do you have any cute picture's of you/friends? If you do take a few nice one's and frame them.. I work at Kohl's dept. store and we have tons of nice but, inexpensive frames... Also, craft stores like Michaels/Pat Catan's have nice frames as well.. Michaels runs a Sunday paper/insert coupon for 40% off a single item.. It's located in the back of their Sunday advertisement....

Or have a secret santa type gift exchange so you don't have to buy for all of your friends..

good luck

Making gifts is always fun! :) Baking them yummy things is definitely good too. A handmade card with a sincere message inside goes a long way too!
