It is for my Mom, who is a larger woman- a size 3X-4X. I've found a site to purchase aprons in that size, but I must buy them in lots of 12. Would anyone have any ideas? Thank you!

Take any pattern and cut it right down the center front. Move the 2 pieces however far apart you want them to be, and fill in with a strip of plain paper. (you can tape several sheets of paper together to make a long strip)

Also, I found some nice plus size ones at Bed Bath & Beyond. They're plain black or blue, so I dolled them up with nice embroidered patches. (Sew the patches on even if they are meant to be ironed on.)

Make your own pattern out of newspaper. You can customize the size of the apron as well as the length of the ties. I've done this before. First tape together sheets of newspaper, then take an apron that is the style you are looking for, lay it out on the newspaper, add inches all the way around to make the correct size you need, then cut out your pattern. Make sure to add on for a hem allowance. or instead of hemming the edges, you can use 3/4 inch cotton blanket edging. I made 3 aprons out of blue jean fabric and edged with white blanket trim. Worked wonderfully. Good Luck!

Here is a custom-made apron website that has reasonable prices for larger sized women: http://craziekaren.tripod.com/id12.html

Aprons for up to size 26: http://www.patterncentral.com/

Kannik's Korner KK 6103 Woman's Shift that could be made as an apron: http://www.sewingcentral.com/cgi-bin/Web_store/web_store.cgi?page=prehoop.html

Chef Uniforms that could be decorated and used as aprons. You can add your own embellishments and decorate the Chef Uniform to personalize it for your mom by adding applique, photo image transfers, fabric paints etc.: http://www.marcusuniforms.com/ChefUniforms.aspx?SID=1&Category_ID=1294&

That's about all I could find. Good luck!
