im 14 and i dont want to live with my parents anymore. i want to live with my grandma and grandpa. the reason is i dont like living in my house because it makes me very depressed. it always seems like my parents do not care about me at all and just see me as a maid and a babysitter in the house. they never let me go to friends house and i get grounded for basically nothing. and i have to babysit everyday and sometiems on weekends. we get into fights a lot about these things. but they dont seem to care at all. they are also VERY controlling. they dont let me do anything i want or anything. they dont let me be me. they make me be what they want. i used to cut because i was depresssed but i dont do that anymore. i try not to. but i am still depressed. and i think it would be better to live with my grandparents. my question is , is it possible to ask to live with my grandparents instead of my parents if im 14?

Even though it might not seem like it, your parents are probably just trying to do what's best for you and are trying to protect you. stick with it... who knows? maybe you could see some good in the matter!! Try doing things for them with a cheerful attitude and hopefully your parents will realize and reward you...Best of luck to you!

It's possible, but it would be a LOT of work and you'd more than likely be burning bridges not only between you and your parents...but probably between your parents and grandparents.

If your grandparents are okay with it, maybe start talking with them about it.

But, it's better to try and not run away from your problems.
I know depression can be really hard, especially when you feel it's caused by your environment. I would first see if you can get some help with counseling.
It may not be your home, but your actual chemical balance or something even more.
Better to try and find the cause of the problem IN ORDER to fix it, not just guess and check.

I hated living at home at that age as well (also had to babysit everyday after school, clean, and cook and whatnot. I've been in a similar situation to you, only I never thought of the possibility of leaving at the time lol)

I hope you can find a good solution to your problems soon.

Sad that has to be the situation. Its not really possible unless you have a lot of court interaction to go to your grandparents. I mean it sounds like a positive step for you but, in reality your stuck with it for the next 3 years. You only have to be 17 to be considered an adult. Just spend the next year researching ways to gain employment, save up money. Working will keep you out of the house, and homework will suplement the other time. If you keep yourself busy you wont feel like your in that environment so much. Then when your 18 you can get your own place, and have some cash to fall back on in case of emergencies. Good luck

Its not fair for you to have to do that. You are not a maid and a babysitter. Ask you grandparents if you can stay with them. If they say that you can stay then have them and you talk to your parents about it. Then go and live there. Depression is serious. Sometimes its better to live with other people.

I can not as an responsible adult tell you that its okay to do that but I will tell you that everything you said short of the cutting described me at your age and I did go to live with my grandparents. I was so much happier BUT I spoke to my grandparents about my situation and then we all spoke to my parents about it. You have to show that you are a mature person and not cry and blame and pout.

You can only live with your grandparents if your parents give permission. Try talking to your grandparents first, and if they agree, they can help convince your parents.

It's not fair for you to be a babysitter all the time.

yes you should ask to speak with your grandparents, my parents did me that way and i went and stayed with my grandmother, and got my own apartment when I was 18, go ahead and finish school, and when you grow up they'll see that you helped them alot, and your siblings will look up to you and admire you, it'll make you feel better, They probably did not get a chance to have fun because they started having children, so they need your help, hang in there, don't let hard times get you down, God love you, if you think they don't FINISH SCHOOL!!

You need to talk to your grandparents about this. And if they're ok with it the three of you need to talk to them about it. Good Luck. I'm sorry you're having a hard time. But remember sometimes the grass isn't greener on the other side.

your best bet would be to wait two years, get a job, find a landlord tht will rent to you and petition the court to legally divorce your parents and be emancipated. It's a tough fight, but if your home situation is that bad, it can be worth. i helped my neice gain her emancipation a few weeks after she turned 16. Good luck.
