One of the only things I can remember about the show was an episode where the jukebox in the kids' hang out turned into a space ship when the show switched from normal (with actors) to a cartoon.

"Kidd Video" (1984-86 on NBC;1988-89 CBS in re-edited form) is what you're struggling to remember. The scene you describe is in the show's first episode (and the opening credit sequence of the show). YouTube has plenty of clips and full episodes from this show.
