Hi - we recently had new brake pads put in our 99 mazda miata since they were totally worn out. Now whenever we brake there is a grinding/wooshing sound that the car makes and it has me worried. We went back to the mechanic and they claim that there is nothing wrong with the car. We spent quite a bit of money getting it done and feel concerned that we are being ripped off. Any advice please? Thanks!

Your breaks are going bad. Go to a mechanic before they go out on you completely.

Try another mechanic and have him/her check the car and find out whats up with it. There is a possibility the brake booster seal may be bad, if the whooshing sound is heard from the inside when you press the brake. If heard from the outside it may be the pads wearing in, if so give them some time to seat in and see how the sounds differ. Be on the safe side and have them checked by a brake pro. God Bless

The wooshing sound may jus be the new brake pads.... if its a high pitch squeal when u berak, thats the car telling u u need new ones. i wouldnt worry about it. the worst thing it could be is some dirt on disc, wich could prove bad after a period of time as it will mishape and create unwanted patterns on your hubs/disc wichever. Either way, take it to a different place that does free brake inspections.

To make your mind at ease. Take it to another brake shop and have them inspected. ( most times this service is free) Some times brakes will make a little noise when first installed as they adjust themselves to your rotors.

Go back to the shop and tell them how concerned you are and they will take care of the problem. they can easily defect out the parts and replace them for free. unless they did the front and now rears are making noise/

brakes may not have been bled to get all the air out, or you may have a vaccum leak on your power booster.
