How many have you read? The ending of PoA was rather ambiguous, GoF was a very somber note, OotP, was quite downbeat, with a slight bit of happiness (when Harry's friends put the Dursleys on notice), and HBP was actively depressing.

By my count, five of the seven books have endings in which a character's death is a major part of the ending (PS/SS, Gof, OotP, HBP, DH), although PS/SS and DH have deaths of bad guys.

I'd hardly call these, "the regular happy ending".

The only thing that I expected to happen in book 6 was for Harry to survive and Voldemort to die...which is how I believe everyone wanted it to be. There were tons of sad things that happened in the last 2 books, great characters dying, unexpected twists, and things that I wanted and hoped to happen never did...so I don't think there's anything wrong with her writing...she's got one of the most creative minds I've ever heard of, and I find her writing and imagination to be brilliant.

There was no happy ending in 5 or 6.

BTW you should put *possible spoilers* in your title just in case anyone who hasn't gotten around to reading something decides to take a look. :)
