Last Letter Home - Dropkick Murphys

This song was written about a solder who died in Iraq who was a huge fan of the band. His parents sent him their latest album, "Blackout", and he wrote a letter back to them saying he loved it and wanted them to play the song "Fields of Athenry" at his funeral when he died. That ended up happening during the war (on his 31st bithday no less) and when they caught wind of the situation, they went to his funeral and performed a more somber version of the song. A lot of the lyrics in "Last Letter Home" are direct lines taken from the soldiers last letter he wrote home. Check out the link below for the entire story. The second link is to a youtube video of the song.

Pick up any album by a band called Bolt Thrower (A UK death metal band who were quite big in the 90's).

Al of their songs are influenced by the military or wars.

Here is 1 for example that they made into a video entitled Cenotaph (in case you are unaware the Cenotaph is a war memorial in London, you would have seen it on Remembrance day when the Queen or another member of the royal family lay a wreath at its base) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxMJDTJXleI
