I live in Georgia. I will be 18 in April. I have had my GED for 1.5 years now and I have been attending community college ever since. Mostly because my High School did not offer that many classes. I have signed up for school for next semester at a 4 year university for spring as a transfer student. I am staying with a friend up there (NO SEXUAL RELATIONS!!) because dorms are too expensive. If I dont go to school next semester my mom will lose child support, which is paying for my college. My mom refuses to let me go because she says that she has legal consent over me and she doesnt trust my friend. Even though I will be 18 in the middle of the semester. Are there any loopholes I can work with as far as Georgia Code goes?? I will have to spend thousands more if I do not go. I need a certain class that is only offered once a semester to be considered a full time student. I will have to wait 1 more year to be in full attendance to this college. The college is out of state. PLEASE HELP!!!

My parents had a binding contract that said that my father must continue child support until the age of 22 as long as I attend school.

Also the contract said that I must be a full time student. And must not become self sufficient.

The only reason I emphasized no sex is because my entire family seems to do the same. I am very sincere in my message. I am not trying to manipulate anyone. I just want help!

The extra class is because I have not met my CPC requiremets from High School. I just need this last class. B4 they can the school can take me off this probationary period.

My mom makes 0 income. (masters in art). This money helps her keep the house. and a little towards my college. Fed aid pays the most. I have NO bad intentions. I just want to go to school. I hate party freaks, I just like studying.

To clerify: I will have to spend thousands more because if I do not attend school next semester I will lose some of that child support money for when I do go. I want to remain a full time student because I want my full degree by age 22. I am very serious about this and I do not enjoy being criticized or compared.

Okay, I lied, to make my mom look better. The truth is I am recieving none of the child support. College is entirely funded my fed aid. And I dont want my mom to lose the house b/c she has nothing else. I want to stay in school so this can happen. I cannot go to any local schools b/c they do not have the classes that I require. She wont let me go b/c my sister doesnt trust this guy for some reason. The guy's mom lives with him. His son lives with him. My fiance has been over there several times. The guy is not bad. I just want to help.

child support should be ending midsemester anyway... by the time your mom could get any legal process going you would already be 18.

This makes zero sense. Child support is paid, regardless of education standing, until a certain age (either 18 or 19 in most states). Why can you not wait until fall to attended a 4 year college? Why will you have to spend more money if you don't go? you can get a job and earn money towards college. There are too many classes to take that only one would knock you out of full time status and you cannot take another. Someone is lying to you. Have you checked the residence laws? Most require you to be there at least a year (and many have changed it to almost 4 to aviod things like this) before granting you instate tuition (and that is your parent living in state, not you, a dependent.). Your logic itself has many loopholes. Do some more research- your story does not add up at all.

My understanding is that once you are 16 or older you can move out on your own without parental consent. However, your mother cannot kick you out until you are 18.

But if you leave, will your mom get the child support anyway? And will she give it to you to pay for school? What about financial aid? It may be too late to get federal aid, but what about student loans?

How on earth can you have to spend money if you don't go to school though?? That just doesn't make any sense. And how can you need a certain class to be considered full time. You need a certain number of credit hours, but the classes don't matter.

I'm a bit confused. You don't want to miss next semester because Mama will loose child support. Now what in tar hills reason is that?! 'splain it to me Lucy. Loop hole around 18? Sister, your a minor until 18. Now I will tell you what my daughter did and you take it from there. My daughter was like you. Go to college out of state and change the world. By the end of first semester she partied herself out of Baylor University and was on probation. That's a 1 year penalty. She had to join the Air Force to pay back the Air Force Scholarship she blew. She went to Germany and got pregnant after marriage of course. She traveled 60 kilometers to and from The University of Maryland/European Division to get her degree. Took her 7 years to get a 4 year education while raising a family. She educated her children and turned out all honor students. Came back to the states and went on to get her Masters. Now she's regional director at AT&T. She did it "her way" not because of any "social programs, welfare or otherwise". Like Frank Sinatra sings "I did it my way". Now STOP and get ahold of yourself. Do what you have to do to get that education. If Mama looses child support so what? Go get a job or join one of the armed forces and earn your education. Stop hanging on to your Mama's skirt. If you don't EARN your education you will never amount to much because you will always be waiting for Mama or society to nurture you along. In less than a year you are a full grown ADULT legally. Now start behaving like one. Let me ask you one last question: how would you get your education if Mama wasn't around? Huh? Answer that. No not to me. To YOURSELF.

regrettably, your mom does have the perfect say in this. some strategies: a million. proceed to attempt to cajole your mom to agree. 2. seek for yet another roomate that your mom will approve of three. See if economic help will help disguise the value of a dorm room (it many times does even though it would be loans) If all else fails- attempt to take extra classes on the community college till you're 18 and legally allowed to stay on your guy or woman.

Im gone tell u str8 up. That is ****** up 2 the fullest! Ive searched 4 some information for you and i cant find any loopholes. If you leave to go to college, which is the best thing for you, you may get in legal trouble if your mom file a report. Colleges look down on legal trouble. Maybe you should try talking to one of the law firms that give free information.
