the Mexicans strategy and tactics were basically stand and fight..........there was no attempt at maneuver, or what we would now recognize as guerrilla war.......Scott's march to Mexico City from Veracruz left his whole supply line wide open...........even the Duke of Wellington said "Now he is lost"......

but the Mexicans stood and fought at Cero Gordo, and were outflanked and routed.....or stood and fought at Mexico City and were swept away by Yankee firepower and bayonets.........Cherubasco (sp?) being the prime example of storming a fortified position with nothing but ladders and cold steel....

and as a side note, the lieutenants and captains of this war would take the lesson of charging fortified positions along with them as they grew older and became the Generals of the Civil War ..with the slaughter at Chancellorsville and Fredricksburg and Gettysburg a result.......

General Black Jack Pershing was sent with over fifty thousand troops into Mexico in a fiasco during the winter months after Poncho Vias. They took modern mechanized army that were ill equipped for the terrain. All they did was spend a lot of time getting equipment out of ditches from the rains, the Mexicans watched.
After chasing Pancho around the country for awhile they returned, mission accomplished. Poncho was killed in the U.S, border state of New Mexico somewhere around 1915. Turned in by an informant.
