Read my answer to your other question, it answers this one too. However, I can add this, I could not see the relevance of analysing a poem - if I liked it, I liked it and that was enough. The in depth analysis of poetry turned me of poetry for many years.
Also, with novels, why analyse characters? Who is to say what the author had in mind, other than the author. Read ""The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe" and tell me it is not allegorical of the sacrificial death of Jesus, the innocent, sinless creator for the sinner. Guess what? CS Lewis reckoned it was not meant to be! Go figure.
