Hi, I am feeling very confused right now. I am a sophmore in college and I can't completely figure out what I want to do with my life. I want a job/career helping people around the world. I want to improve the lives of others and help them. I also want to work for or being involved with organizations like WHO, UNICEF and others such. I want do something in biological sciences or health or something related also. Currently I have a minor in business and a minor in Spanish. I also speak Hindi, and a little bit of Arabic.
So I don't know what to do with all this. What path should I go on? Can someone please help me?
thank you for taking the time to read this.

You might think you are confused, but you actually sound terrific. All of this goes together very well. I can imagine that a lot of organizations would be delighted to have someone with your qualifications and values. Are you currently a biology major? With the business minor and the languages, I think you are doing great - you might look into public health graduate programs eventually to give you the opportunity to work more independently in the sciences.

You should think about majoring in Public Health if your school has it as a major. Public Health sounds right up your ally. That major could lead you to a career with the WHO or similar organizations.

If there is no Public Health major, I would either major in International Relations or Public Policy with a concentration in International Studies. Either major could really lead you to these careers.

If none of that is availible, you might be left with Political Science. :( Public Health sounds like it would be perfect for you! You'd learn health policy which you could later apply in international health organizations. Also, consider a minor or a double major in Arabic if its availible. Foreign languages are always big pluses when you intend to work internationally.

I have to agree with neniaf. Biology, or something in the biological sciences, with your background, could lead directly to a graduate program in public health. Biology + business + Spanish would really help you out when looking for jobs, regardless of what you decide to do.

All those analytical skills that are learned in the sciences and business are really important when looking for a job. As an art (history + studio) major, I am often stuck trying to convince potential employers of my analytical skills, which is something my friends who have majored in biology/chemistry/math/physics have never had to do. (That's what I get for changing pre-med Math/Bio to Art & Architectural Theory).

A good question, and you've given us a lot of information to work with--but even so, nobody here has enough information to give you a decent recommendation.

Your college should have a career counseling office that can give you the help you need. There are tests to help determine what your skills are and what sorts of job your attitude would do best in--the career counselors can administer those tests, give you a list of potential careers to explore that match you, and they can also access government databases to show the projected demand and salary for each of those jobs.
