It would be very rare to destroy a typical lock by picking it (whether you knew what you were doing or not).

Does it destroy a lock to push in the wrong key and find that the lock does not open? Of course not.

If you broke off a tool inside that would be bad. If it is one of those round keys (used on many toolboxes and computers) then you might get it turned one step and have it stick where you can't get the key in.

Picking a lock should not destroy the lock. When a key is inserted into a lock, the bumps and valleys cause a series of pins to get pushed up or fall down. When all of these pins are in alignment, the tumble on the lock can turn. Picking a lock simply simulates inserting a key and should not destroy the lock. In fact, picking a lock uses finesse and not force, so you shouldn't even damage the lock by failing.

Check with the manufacturer of the lock. Most of the time it will not hurt the lock if it is done properly. if the locks have electronic circuits or sensors permanent damage can occur. Car doors and other keyless locks for example can contain hardware and electronics that can be damaged by bypassing the lock.

Depends on the lock and it depends on how you pick it. Generally, no, it does not. But it certainly can!

no all you are doing by picking the lock is moving all the tumblers in the lock the same as the key would do your just using a substitute key by picking it

Bit of wire, might take you a while though. at least 30cm long so you can get a good length on it, make a hook. Inside of a pen is also quite handy
