I personally LOVE OFB!
It's the first expansion pack, out of both series' of games, that actually added some challenge.
Yes, you get to open and run your own businesses. You can even hire and fire staff, as well as train them.
My favorite business so far has been an art store. I have a flowershop and an art store, and the art store does way better business. It's hard selling flowers!
The real challenge in owning a business is taking care of your customers. Keep them happy, and they'll buy stuff. Upset? You'll lose money so fast you won't know what happened.
The game also introduced new "work" stations in the game to assist with the businesses. You can choose from a flower arrangement stand, a robot stand, and a toy shop. Each one offers something different, and with lots of practice at each stand, you can earn talent badges, which will open up more objects to make.
Now, I also have Nightlife, and while I enjoy it a lot, it's not as fun as OFB. The only things NL brought were going downtown to clubs and restaurants, the only other exciting thing it brought was the ability to own and drive cars. That's it. If I had to pick only one, I think I'd pick OFB first.

OFB is better than Nightlife. I never understood the appeal of nightlife and hot date [the sims 1]
OFB added a lot of nice items. The robot station, the flower arranging station, the toy making station.
I believe this is the expansion where they also added talent badges.
I like that you can open a business on your home lot or on a community lot.
Seasons and Uni were my favorite expansions, and I really thought I'd hate seasons too lol

I love that game. Yes you own your own business and you can even stay home and let others manage your business. You can transfer business ownerships to families and friends. You get more things for your game. Nightlife is definitely better because you get cars.
