Okay, so my friend's girlfriend knew I really needed a job badly (I'm a broke college student), so she got me a job at victoria's secret because it was a sure thing and had a connection. Yes, I am straight and no I'm not a pervert, I just need money. I mostly just do stocking all day and rarely deal with customers, but I can tell it sort of makes some women who walk in uncomfortable to see a male working there. I can honestly say I have a great time at work and love the people I work with, but I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable. So my question is, what should I do about my job? Many women actually ask me what my opinion for some stuff is, I guess for their boyfriends or husbands, idk. But i still can't get over the fact that maybe I make some people uncomfortable, I'm a very nice person and need some suggestions of how this can be solved.

*I guess I understand some people being uncomfortable... they are buying their "personals" in there... but some people are more private than others.. I wouldn't worry about it. It's sounds like you're normal. Just keep helping out the women who want your opinion, it's probably a good thing to have a guy in there to help women pick out something that will strike their husbands attention! *

It sounds to me that you are feeling a bit "less than a man" because your gf got you a job @ VS, and that anxiety is causing you to take something really small and magnify it more than you really should. Don't get me wrong... you shouldn't feel that way, and I actually don't see a problem with a "straight, non-perverted man" working at VS. I personally am not going to ask a woman, and especially one I don't know, what I should wear, or what looks good on me when it comes to lingerie or lounge wear or whatever else is in VS. But that's just me. I'd prefer to ask a man... to a certain extent : ) Just chill out, make your money, and enjoy your job... because in most jobs you'll find that someone you come in contact will be uncomfortable because of your presence.

actually you seem to be doing a good job, so just keep on truckin' (whatever that means). anyway who cares if you make people unhappy at least you're getting paid.

oh and a word of advice if the store's losing business because of the akwardness some customers feel try not to intimidate anybody by approaching them like a salesman or just hide behind the counter, that's what i would do

I've worked stock before, but I never thought about Victoria's Secret. I agree with others, keep your head down, get all your work done, and enjoy what you have. It has to be one of the best stock jobs.

well i just got a job at victorias secret also, and theres a guy that works with me there, he said his secret is just to stay next to the perfumes and lotions because girls love his opinion on that, instead of actually going on and helping girls with bra sizes and stuff like that. he also avoids the older ladies too because they're not so receptive of a male employee at a lengerie store you know? i say stick to it, its a cool job, im sure you'll get more comfortable with time

It wouldn't make me super uncomfortable...maybe a little depending on how hot you are...or depending on how intimidated you are...but if you approach women with a confidant, "this isn't weird for me" attitude you will get the same from them...
think about what a gay guy would do...and do that...just don't be nervous because that would creep me out ;)

l don't see anything wrong with it. You know your sexuality and you are just doing a good job. Don't mind what the others say. Be polite to tell customers you are not "fashionably attuned to lingerie" and not the best person to ask. They'll understand.

brutally honest, you said you needed a job b/c you're broke. dont become unemployed because you make some ppl uneasy. they arent going to give you money if you quit so stick with this job you love and make that money.
