So many confusions on the University of Hawaii's team name...lets just clarify this.

The University of Hawaiʻi Warriors, University of Hawaiʻi Rainbow Warriors, or University of Hawaiʻi Rainbows are the team names of the men's sports programs at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.

Prior to the year 2000, the University of Hawaiʻi's mens teams were all referred to as the Rainbow Warriors, complemented by an athletics logo featuring a rainbow. However, in a controversial marketing strategy over which many at the University and throughout Hawaii have misgivings, the school changed its athletics logo to a stylized "H" and allowed each team to pick its own team name. This has led to the current situation, where three teams have retained the team name of "Rainbow Warriors," one team adopted the name "Rainbows," and three teams have adopted the name "Warriors."

University of Hawaii Athletics:
Football = Warrior Football
Baseball = Rainbow Baseball
Basketball = Rainbow Warrior Basketball
Golf = Rainbow Golf
Swimming & Diving = Rainbow Warrior Swimming & Diving
Tennis = Rainbow Warrior Tennis
Volleyball = Warrior Volleyball

they used to be know as the Rainbow Warriors but it was shortened to Warriors by the school president because of the connection the rainbow has with homosexuality. Which didnt make sense to me because the school had always been the Rainbows for im guess the 20 or 30 years before he got there.

Formerly known as the intimidating Rainbow Warriors. They got new uniforms and are simply called the Warriors now.

Rainbows to Rainbow Warriors to Warriors, just like previously said.

What I would add is they also went with a physical change to go with the name change. They used to have Rainbows on their helmets and they wore green (let's say a happy green), now they go with the dark green and black...definitely a change for the better.

All I know is it is a joke that they are BCS team. They only played one ranked opponent all year and that team was ranked 20th at the time.

Rainbow Warriors.....

Never mind that one is just too easy to make fun of.

At least they are not a Californian school with that name it would be just way too much.
