Despite the countless debates, commercials, smear ads, and vote campaigns, what if not one person voted? Would we still end up with a president? If so, then what is the point of voting? I think the public has been duped into believing the popular vote is important?

So here's the point....whether a candidate wins the popular vote or not, the electoral college picks the president. Why sucker the public into voting?

"If you don't think your vote counts, maybe you shouldn't be voting. Why should someone who is apathetic and unwilling to invest the time to consider the candidates and their positions be trusted with the most important act in a democratic government?"
We aren't a true democracy. Voting is a very important funamental right. So why can't I vote for someone who isn't in a party, someone who is completely an independent individual? Did you know that is many states, Georgia etc., you are not allowed to run for a position in the government unless you are part of a party?
There are many states that have this unconstitutional law. The only individual in history that ran for president in this manner was George Washington and he warned about political parties.
Kind of odd that none have tried since.
Edit:

Well, people have to feel they have some hope. If they had no hope, then people tend to become rebellious.

Well the popular votes don't actually count. The electoral votes are the only votes that count. People are selected from each state based on population (min. of 3 people for small states), and become apart of the electoral college. They then vote for president.
Most of the time, the electoral votes and the popular vote goes the same way; but sometimes they don't. In 2000 Al Gore won the popular vote but Bush won the electoral votes so he became president.
Its kinda confusing, but that's basically what happens. I don't really know why they have a popular vote either, probably just so politicians can have a reason to blab and verbally abuse each other lol

It would be a dead tie as all of the candidates will vote for themselves.. Seriously, It does not matter if everyone or nobody voted. Yes, it would send a message but it's not really the voting public that chooses the president. It's the electoral college. The reps. for your state can choose to ignore the vote count and choose the other way. It is quite literally at their discression.
Makes you feel not so free as you thought don"t it?

When you vote you think you are electing a president. You are not. You are electing a group of people called the College of Electors. They are the ones who elect the president. The percentage of votes cast by us is supposed to be used by the college of electors in deciding the president but there has been a president that lost the popular vote but won the electoral vote.

the popular vote is important, its just we have an outdated electoral college system that sometimes gives us the wrong guy (Bush).
But if no one voted, it would be an electoral tie, and it would go to the House of Representatives and they would vote
