I would like to add, it was called the 39 days war. Members of my family were arrested by the Germans and never seen again. My great uncle was a Polish lancer.

Germany invaded Poland on September 1, 1939. On the 17th of that month, the Soviet Union invaded Poland from the east, as part of the secret German-Soviet non aggression pact. By October 1, 1939, Polish military resistance had ceased, although no formal surrender was made. So 30-31 days of formal resistance by the Polish armed forces.

Ross is correct.
Please note that he used the word "formal" in describing Polish resistance of the Nazi Blitzkrieg. Yeah, they had tanks and the Poles had horses - but the Poles never stopped fighting for their Country. Neither did they stop when the Commies rolled in. Strong people.
