My hard drive supposedly is in bad status. My startup screen is stating that. It was fine until my power supply went out. I replaced it and now it is scan disking and is only 10% complete reading bad file segments that are unreadable. I can't boot from a windows disc. Im not sure how to delete the partition to reinstall. I am running XP.

Ok, i think that your hard drive is physically damaged. you can't just delete the partition and then reinstall. you would have to replace the whole hard drive.

Without more info no one can say it is a bit error (correctable by wiping and reinstall XP) or it is a major mechanical failure.

Are you saying booting from an installation CD is impossible? That indicates total failure on the mobo.

spinrite is a $90 program. Unless you download it illegally and risk a virus, it's just as cheap to buy a new drive.

I would buy a new hard drive, I wouldn't trust my data on a drive like this even if you get it working.

run spinrite before you reinstall
it should mark the bad sectors for non use and map replacement sectors ect.
