Steve Vai by far is one great virtuoso guitarist. Frank Zappa taught him everything he knows. I met Steve when he auditioned for Frank and I was there when Frank ridiculed him as a guitarist. Frank loved his stamina and hired him on the spot. Steve learned from Frank Zappa about content and tone and that is more valuable than virtuoso.
I play virtuoso on acoustic and I have been ridiculed for my music theory combined with/Hip Hop/R&B/Classcial with a Country tone. I did it and it flopped, but what didn;t flop was ,my content and my tone.
