Although the Romans finally defeated the Huns at the Battle of Chalons in A. D. 451, the Huns were also a factor in the Fall of Rome. A few generations earlier, the Huns, then living in what's now Russia, migrated west and displaced the Ostrogoths, who in turn moved west and displaced the Visigoths, who moved into Roman territory. A generation later, the Huns once again elbowed out the Ostrogoths, who this time also moved into Roman territory. By the time the Huns themselves crossed into Roman territory, the Goths, both Ostro and Visi, had been making trouble for the Romans for about fifty years.
