Bush and Cheney thought if we could be lied to and tricked into a war with Iran he could declare Marshall law and keep his sorry butt in office longer. Not to mention the extra war profiteering $$$ he and his cronies would make.

Your talking about apples and oranges.
Do you expect US intelligence to know the moment that Iran stopped it's nuclear weapons program ?
Some intelligence takes years to gain.
In this case, the Intelligence agencies thought Iran had an active nuclear weapons program, as late as last year.
New information, now makes them think Iran halted the program in 2003.
Notice i said think.
Just like they thought Iran had a program last year.
Intelligence isn't foolproof.
There are no James Bonds, we can send to Iran to sneak into their nuclear industry to gain complete up to date information.
So the president has to make foreign policy based on what the intelligence services think.
As the intelligence changes or is made clearer, then the presidents foreign policy can change.
But you cannot look at data we know in 2007, and say, well the president lied back in 2006 when he said this,
Because in 2006, he was basing his opinions on the 2006 intelligence assessments.

I find it deeply annoying that Bush still believes that he can go ahead and wage a war over faulty intelligence--as if the LAST one wasn't bad enough--and no one can call him on it; even despite the hard facts on the ground.
Even if the intel is faulty to some degree...I mean come on!
4 YEARS HAVE PASSED SINCE 2003!
Shouldn't Iran have the bomb by now as the Bush regime claims it's acquiring?
So where IS the a-bomb? Why haven't the Iranian military showcased it?
The easy answer is: THEY HAVEN'T GOT ONE.
It may take a few years for a superpower like the US to make a Grade A atomic weapon, but it takes a third-world nation (rich in oil) DECADES to even come up with low-grade uranium enrichment technology.
From what I've been able to determine, Iran froze its program because of international pressure and the expense involved in trying to culminate a nuclear weapon.
So instead, they turned to nuclear power technology--which they had a right to--and started up low-level uranium enrichment; which is insufficient for weapons-grade uranium.
And after 4 years, they finally had reached levels where they can use it to benefit their country and become less dependent on oil.
That's where the danger is for oil men like Bush. Without oil exports from Iran, the world economy is going to go nuts for a time; as that nation shuts off the spigot.
The GOP and Bush have no credibility because they've lied so many times--no one but their core supporters believe them anymore.

So why is Iran still assuring the West that its nuclear program is still for domestic use, and NO sanctions will stop it?
And who said Saddam had weapons of mass destruction?

Bush says it still is a bad sign cause Iran " could change their minds." They were ramping up for war again on faulty intelligence. These people have no shame. Just make it up as you go along.

what is obvious is though they have declared a "freeze" on their nuclear weapons program, the term "freeze" suggests that it can at anytime be unfrozen and resumed. And all the while uranium nuclear bomb fuel is being enriched and stockpiled for energy purposes. thats the cold, emotionless assesment without name calling or pointing fingers.
