It's a gamble either way. Santana has been hurt and no one can tell how that will effect the next year or so or even the rest of his career. Still, I would love to have him in pinstripes. Young "potential" talents has always bothered me. Unproven long term players don't impress me. I want to see results. The one pitcher I don't want to lose is Joba "The Hutt". I've seen him live a couple of times this season and the man throws mega heat! If he stays healthy we could be looking at a Roger Clemens type talent.

I am very relieved that they are not going after Santana and giving up Hughes, Chamberlain, Kennedy, Melky,or any other young player.

Santana is great, but if you look at his stats, he is not as dominant as he used to be. His ERA rose from 2.77 in 2006 to 3.33 in 2007, and his HR allowed went from 24 to 33. That's a lot of HR for anyone. I think Santana has already peaked. He may be very good or great for another couple of years, but most of his best years are behind him. Trading any of the "Big Three" would have been a major mistake. Chamberlain gets most of the attention, but the best of Hughes is yet to come. He had a no-hitter in the 7th inning in his second major league start before he hurt his hamstring last season, then he sprained his ankle while rehabbing. When he came back, he was only throwing 90-91 instead of 94-96. He still pitched well even though he wasn't as strong because of the injuries.

Hughes and Chamberlain will be a great 1-2 punch, with a lot of wins and a lot of strikeouts. Kennedy is a lot like Mussina, good stuff, and knows how to pitch.

I am very happy that the Yankees kept these guys. The Yankees won four championships with good pitching, not hitting. These guys will take them back to the World Series within the next couple of years.

i'm actually upset really, cause well santana's one of the best pitchers in baseball, i won't go out and say the best cause well that can always be argued, but one of the best...true i also think that they should work on what they have in the young talent they have, that being said, i would have liked a stronger chase for santana from the yanks but not on the price of giving up say a hughes, cause i really like how hughes pitches, if you look closely at his windows, they resemble that of a young clemens, that's deadly if you ask me, think of it, if they had gotten santana and hughes signed for a few years along with wang and the rest, it would be an amazing rotation, and with rivera the closer and the bats they got, what else would you need? i was thinking of that kind of prospects...and at least they could have tried to up the price of santana, sounds cheap but it's done anyways...ah well hopefully they can stay healthy next season, and i am looking forward to the improvement of the young talent the yanks got, esspecially chamberlain and more even hughes with that window, if he can perfect it, we may see another version of clemens, i know it's unfair to put that kind of pressure, but it's possible, looking at those windows of release and everything...anyways do tell of what young talent you wish to see improve the most and also why you think they couldn't try to keep a fair amount of the young talent they got and still play the cards towards santana or at least run the price up on him...

Its a great move by the Yanks, stuck to our guns, put the deal on the table, set a deadline and said "clock is ticking". Deadline came and went, and then what happened? Boston said "OK, you can have Ellsbury, Buccholz, OR Lester and prospects, but not two of the three". Now that we aren't the front runners Boston isn't worried about where he will go allowing the competitive smaller market teams to swoop in with a breathtaking offer much the way Detroit did with Cabrera.

They did go after him, they just didn't get him, at least not yet. It depends, if the young starters we have live up to their expectations, then it's good we didn't give them up for Santana, as long as he doesn't go to Boston. If Santana does go to Boston, Boston will be very tough next year, with Santana added to their already good rotation. The Yankees are winning the AL pennant next year anyway, with or without Santana.

The Yankees will still be a good team, with or without Santana. Stay positive.

The Yankees may not wind up with Santana but you can bet they are still in the mix if there is a deal that can be made.

i do no longer hate the Mets, and that i'm a Yankee fan. I want the Mets to a pair different NL group, in reality. as far as followers, i visit purely lose know for a Mets fan in the event that they initiate asserting their group is greater desirable, this is probably no longer the case.

I am happy, Melky has one of the best arms in the mlb. Hughes is going to be great. And Santanna's not that great. He only got wins because he had the Batting champ and AL MVP on his team.

im not a yankees fan, but i feel awfully comfortable in the thought that the yanks have done absolutely nothing to improve on a team that underachieved worse then i think any team ever has, in fact they downgraded, because they got rid of the glue that held all those egos together
