You should see your family doctor. It sounds like you have a vaginal infection, possibly a yeast infection, but it might not be limited to that. Smelly, thick discharge is a common symptom of several different infections, and the treatments are different for each. You don't want to stop the flow so much, as treat the reason for it. You have a discharge because your body is trying to cleanse itself.
Do not delay getting checked out. If left unchecked, an infection can sterilize you, or spread to other parts of your body.
Start by drinking lots of water and cranberry juice. These are both cleansing drinks. Add yogurt to your diet also, the kind with live and active cultures. The bacteria (in the yogurt) can help balance out your body's natural bacterial balance (important for health).
If you are sexually active (and I hope you are not), then DON'T HAVE SEX until you have been examined by your physician.
Watch for color changes in the discharge. Normal discharge is clear. Infection can range in color from cloudy white, to "cottage cheese", to dark yellow or even brown.
Make sure you shower (NOT bath, you don't want to sit in the water) every day, and be careful to wash properly. Change your underwear at least twice a day, and launder it properly. Stop using tampons! They may be contributing to the problem.
I hope you get this checked out, and soon. Good luck.

If you are having foul smelling discharge so heavy that you have to wear a tampon and/or pantyliner AND CHANGE IT EVERY 10 MINUTES then you HAVE to go to the doctor. It's completely normal to have discharge, but foul smelling, thick and heavy discharge is a sign of something wrong. As embarrassing as it may be you are going to have to talk to your mom about this. It sounds like it may be Bacterial vaginosis. All this is is an overgrowth of the "good" bacteria in our vaginas which aid in naturally cleansing. If you have BV then it can be cured with a prescription pill or a cream or gel that would be inserted into the vagina. From reading your symptoms it sounds exactly like BV! OR It is also possible that you could have a yeast infection instead. You just need to go be checked out. Good luck!!!!!!!

If you are speaking of discharge while you are NOT on your cycle--there is nothing you can do to slow this down. It it is whitish to yellow and has a bad odor, it is probably bacteria vaginosis. This is NOT an STD, it is merely a bacteria. But it is important to know it will not go away without treatment. It may be embarrassing to discuss this with a parent that will need to take you to a doctor but the odor (and what people might say)will probably be more embarrassing. Just know that this is natural and normal and the treatment is simple. Now if you have had sexual relations, you will need to tell the doctor that sothey can perform any other testing that might be warranted. Normally the DR. will ask the parent to leave the room when they ask you if you have been sexually active but it is very important to be honest. Under state law the doctor cannot tell your parent how you answered that question.

Perhaps you should ask your doctor or ob/gyn, so as to rule out an infection. I wouldn't wear a Tampon or Tampax, if I was you, but a panty liner is okay. As for the odor, Playtex makes a real nice cleansing cloth that would help freshen you up in that area. They come in a plastic container or you can buy the slim travel pack of these wipes that have a resealable flap on them. You can carry them in your purse or backpack. I've seen these at Wal*Mart, which would be cheaper than a drug store or grocery store. Try drinking a lot if water each day & see if that helps where the flow & odor are concerned. It can't hurt, because the body needs lots of water daily. See your doctor!!!!!

If you aren't having your period you shouldn't use tampons. It sounds like you have an infection and you could be making it worse, go to a doctor or a planned parenthood type of clinic, they should be able to help you out.
If for some reason you can't, you still need to know if you have an infection. I've seen comercials about (I think) Monistat having a test that you can use to see if you have a yeast infection, if you do then you can use over-the-counter stuff to treat it with out going to a doctor. If you've never had a yeast infection before I would strongly advise going to a doctor though.

If you are getting a heavy discharge with an odour then you really should go to your doctor and get it checked out. A discharge is quite normal but what you are describing sounds like some sort of infection. It probably is something easily cleared up and will save you the embarassment of worrying about the odour.

It sounds like a yeast infection, but after this long I would really think you would be itchy, burning, and miserable. I suggest you go on www.webmd.com This site has a symptom checker and will lead you through questions and answers as to what it may be. It will also tell you whether you can try home treatment, or if you need to see a doctor. It's full of great information so you can totally educate yourself. I hope you get a good answer that will get rid of this for you, best wishes!

very often at the beginning of a menstruation cycle your flow will be heavy and then taper off a day or two later. as to the smell, each person has their own particular odor...i don't think you can do anything about that. just keep using tampons (pads are nasty and make you feel like you're wearing a soggy diaper...which you are)...you'll get used to the tampons eventually and never want to use pads again. hope this helps.

You may have a yeast infection. It would be a good idea to see a doctor. If discharge is thick and white like cottage cheese, it could be an infection. Also discharge has an odour, but not as significant as you claim to have. I wouldn't use a tampon because if it is an infection, it may make it worse.

First off, tampons are only for period blood not normal vaginal discharge. Second, you need to see a doctor. Your discharge should never have a stinky smell.
