the thought. It then immediately produces anxiety, fear, etc. Then I get angry because the thought came and I cant get rid of it once and for all. Eventually the anxiety passes and at times I do have peace. However, it always creeps back in again. Any suggestions on how to deal with this?

Be aware that the enemy is constantly trying to remind us of the past, so thoughts of past things will from time to time pop up.

When these thoughts come, if your Bible is handy...read it. Write down Scriptures that speak to you...this will get your mind on something GOOD!

When bad thoughts come say, "No! Those are from my past, and Jesus is my present and my future. I refuse to think on those things, but will think on the things of God!"

Renew your mind with the Word of God, and soon you'll easily cast down unwanted thoughts!

I've had this same issue before. This is what you do. Focus on whatever bothers you and be stronger than it. Let it come out. If you think God will help you, think again. Not that He's not there, He would rather us take our own problems and conquer them. He made us strong the way we are. Use that. If you don't meditate, find a hypnotherapist that will reprogram your brain. They have a 90% success rating with smokers (the deepest addiction if you ask me). God gave us all the tools we need, and if you asked, you shall recieve. Maybe in the form of another human with a healing art. He works in mysterious ways...exploit that.

when it starts to creep back in -
get your mind on something better - like -

reading your Bible

this time of year it get's exciting to reread about the nativity story - and what you learn each time you go thru it

One New Testament professor I had reads the NT once a
month - and always finds a new treasure somewhere along the way

and it works for me

I have bad memories that satan loves to remind me of my
shortfalls - and how could God ever love a person like ME
---haunt - good word - BUT - Be Still and KNOW ****
that I AM GOD!

PS 27:1 - the Lord is my light, and my salvation,
whom then shallI fear - the Lord is the strength of my life.

blessings

People will get mad if I say it, but your dilemma isn't about God, or Jesus, or faith, or anything like that. Haunting memories return because you haven't made peace or sense out of them. Sometimes it takes a lifetime to do so. They may always return, but in time, the intervals between their returns will grow longer and longer. Good luck. And God bless.

I know what you are talking about!
I agree with what everyone else writes, but I got one thing to add. Did you forgive yourself? If not, just forgive yourself! That's a huge step. Then, things will start to fall in place, along with following the advice of other posters.

Also, try and turn past negatives into a positive. One way is to reach out to someone you relate to, and let them know about your experience, and the negative place it took you. Let them know they can get healed if they allow themselves to be healed. If you need pointers, write me. When someone on here write something you highly agree with ,or touches you, let them know if you can!

Bless you! I love you, (((((HUGS &HOLY KISSES)))).
Take Care, Sibling-In-Christ.

REALLY good & valid question! And brave of you to ask! I'll be praying for you!

I Just think about How Satan likes to put them back into my Head, to see My reaction...So, Immediately I Just Ask God again to remove that memory In Jesus' name. Then I start thinking of my favorite scripture Verse, and saying it Out Loud, so the Devil can Hear me....God says "if we resist Him, He will FLEE." He Does, and so does my thoughts. (smile)

There is no god. Sounds like you might have OCD.
