this penny has no mint mark, no "common" irregularities. minor scratches on lincoln memorial side, inscription of VDB on lincolns lower left arm. the unusal part is that it has no copper coating. it appears to be all zinc, with appearances similar to 1943 steel penny. non-magnetic like common penny.

I believe that your coin may be silver plated. If so your coin has a thin coat of silver on its surface. I have a set of Gold plated nickels, they are not expensive but they are interesting. If you have a coin dealer in your area take it to him and see if he could help. I hope this helps answer your question.

The 1994 cent should weigh 2.5 grams. If it weighs more that that then it has been silver plated. If less then the copper platting was either not applied or it was melted off. Putting a modern cent on the top of a wood stove will melt off the copper, but not melt the zinc. So someone could have removed the copper. It needs to be weighed, go to a coin dealer or jeweler and they should do it for you. You can then go from there.

you may have gotten a silver penny or just one that the copper coating has rubbed off, you would need to go to a coin dealer and have them look at it or go find a book about coins and the rarity of them try coinfacts.com
