My dogs are smarter than I am in some ways. For instance, they can tell when a car is going to stop in front of my house before it even comes in sight. They tell by the sound. On the other hand, I've never met a dog that could avoid tangling a leash, without the help of a human. They don't understand strings.
I'm not surprised that a chimp can perform some tasks better than a human can.

The test you are referring to pitted a young well trained chimp against novice collage age volunteers, IIRC. Generally our short term memory peaks during childhood and has a slight decline afterwards. It may be that the same chimp could not out perform human children.

Well o.k I must be smarter than the scientist that conducted this and came to a conclusion that this is bases for news! 1. How many chimps pay bills, wash clothes worry about eating and what they are going to fix for dinner? They have a great memory for simple things when their mind is not cluttered with school work,or work in general! My God these people are so brilliant I can't see!

Monkeys will never be smarter than us.
I saw a film where Apes ruled and men were their slaves. Any way it turns out that this astronaut landed on this planet but it was earth in the future. In the end it seemed Humans had let off nuclear bombs in a war and the monkeys had evelved and taken control.
See it takes real brains to come up with a weapon like a nuclear bomb and then let it off!!

I say it´s ok but I dont understand why in some media they are saying that they are clever than us, memory is one thing and intelligence is another.
For me is very difficult to remember things, for me to remember something (like a definition) I have to comprehend it, to understand it and I cant remember things like dates or series of numbers. It is not so important to me. Our world is so complex and we need our memory for other things.
A chimp doenst understand what he is seeing to memorize it, he doesnt need to, and this is no normal chimp, this chimps are "work on" they humans have teached them all this things and for the chimp is important to remember all this because he gets a prize. in its nature is a life and death situation.

It's only a memory task, does it have the intelligence to do things that require more than mere memory?

I'm not surprised. They don't have as many issues to think or worry about thus they have plenty of clarity to remember.

I think we should stop killing animals and defend them. They are obviously not the dumb animals the meat packers want us to believe so we can eat them without guilt.
