I mostly follow football but it seems like the Tigers just traded very little away for one of the best players in baseball (Miguel Cabrera).

From The Tigers, The Marlins picked up the 20-year-old Maybin, universally regarded as one of the five best prospects in baseball, and the 22-year-old Miller, a left-handed pitcher who was considered the best player in the 2006 draft. Also included were catcher Mike Rabelo, reliever Eulogio de la Cruz and starters Dallas Trahern and Blake Badenhop. High prospects but who's to say that they will pan out.

Cabrera has already panned out and in my opinion he's the second coming of A-Rod. How many years are left on his current contract?

I can't express my excitement. I'm the BIGGEST Tiger fan. I could go on forever about this trade but it seems in favor of the Tigers. I mean, Willis and Cabrera are PROVEN players. Maybin and Miller are prospects EXPECTED to do well.

Do the math. Thank you Dombrowski!

it's huge for them and they sorta did it under the radar 2. You wonder why the Yanks WEREN'T trying to acquire a guy like Willis (not that he's equal to Santana but he'd be a better lefty than we've had in the last 3 or 4 years). Cabrera is a big bat with a good on-base percentage and the Tigers need that, they strike out so much. Willis will be ok, but he has the tendency to get roughed up, by crummy teams no less. He's playing in the AL also, so that might affect him as well. But Detroit's stadium is another big park, like Pro Player Field, so that'll keep some balls in play.

the trade isn't a steal, although in the short-term it greatly benefits the tigers. the marlins were looking to cut (from their miniscule) payroll and that meant cabrera and willis. but in return and as you mentioned, they get two of the best prospects in baseball, both of which have superstar potential. not to mention the other less known prospects. so i would call it pretty even in eventuality, with the tigers getting the edge now, and the marlins later.

with the vets in detroit i think it makes a lot of sense, because now they have one of the, if not the best lineup in baseball. but they paid for it. willis hasn't beem great the last year, but detroit hopes that he can regain the dominance that he had in the past. his youth gives him time though.

Cabrera has a one year contract worth $7.4 . he won his arbitration hearing on February 17, 2007.

It was a good trade on both sides except I believe the Marlins should of built a team around Cabrera. He is only 24 and one of the best hitters in baseball.

Thats the thing about prospects, you can never tell. But I would say its a fair trade. Especially Rabelo and Miller. Miller had a good 06, but a not so good 07. It will probably even out in the next couple years...

Florida received some quality young talent in return, but the idiots who run the club will probably trade them off when they have to pay a significant salary to them. The Marlins have what potentially can be a nice nucleus of players, but I question management's desire to actually compete again for a championship.

it was a GREAT trade for both team Andrew Miller,Camron Maybin are gonna be AllStars for yrs.....Rabelo is the one im sad about leaving(i wish they wouldve sent Pudge back to theMarlins) i think Rabelo is gonna have a solid career( not anywhere near Rodriguez) but the Tigers will need a catcher in a yr or 2 ...

there are 28 other teams that will not allow a player to be taken by another team for nothing. The Marlins got some very good young talent in return.

We won't know the answer to that for a few years yet. Remember John Smoltz for Doyle Alexander. Tigers looked good on that one initially but time has shown us differently.
