Why is Iran still a risk when the government capitulated with demands to cease its nuclear weapons programs years ago?

Does every country have to report to the UN or the US about what it is doing with uranium?

Um ... obviously someone didn't read the question ... Iran doesn't have bomb or the capability to make them.

Actually, I don't hate President Bush. I genuinely want to know why Iran is a threat and why, despite the report, which the President appears to believe, he is still set on the same course of action. I just want to know why ... I'd like to understand how it works.

Most (not all) nuclear nations belong to some kind of treaty regarding the use of the byproducts of nuclear fission reactors so there is some reason to be leery of nuclear programs, particularly in countries that sit atop some very rich oil reserves.
It also gives the US a reason to meddle.

If we look at the actual facts there are countries with nuclear arsenals and others that only have the vaguest potential of developing a single bomb. Guess who's who???? Why would the Saudi's support George Bush? What did George Bush pay Iran for the two ships of oil that bought the Houston Astros? When it comes to risking someone's kids I vote for Bush all the way, just look at how many he's risked and killed. Has anybody looked at the Israeli effect on the price of oil? Some folks seem to need a short course in mathematics and economics rather than the rhetoric of fear and manipulation.

It's a question of level of risk. There is no direct risk that Iranian tanks will be rolling down Pennsylvania avenue anytime soon. However, persistent terrorism, which may or may not be sponsored by Iran, has an economically unsettling effect on the Middle East and the rest of the world via oil prices.

So Iran represents a on-going systematic risk regarding economic instability and the killing of western individuals.

The question might be better put, what is the level of risk we are prepared to accept from such a regime with a well recorded history of violence and extremism?

Personally I think Dubya's overdoing it.

The Iranians have very likely sponsored terrorism in Iraq and subsequently extended the conflict there, as well as the cost in life and money to the US. But that is not worth another war for.

Even if dropping a few bombs on the Revolutionary Guard would be satisfying and deserved.

Iran, it would seem, is not engaged in any violence in any part of the world. But Iran is more or less holding Syria and Lebanon hostage through their proxies like Hezbollah. They fund the terrorists in Palestine and all over the world. Iran wants to remove "Jews" (Israel) from "Arab land". They also want "Death to America." They have been a screwed up hateful country for years, but when Ahmadinejad took office in 2005, he stepped it up a couple a notches. Or more.

And no, they don't *have to* report anything to us, but if we feel we're threatened, we'll take action. I can only hope Israel will do the same once and for all.

Jordan and Saudi Arabia were some of the countries screaming the loudest with the prospect of Iran getting nukes. That should tell you something about Iran. Israel has had nukes for many years and they weren't screaming about that.

Iran, iraq and the general middle east are in possession of 3/4's of the earths oil. Now it is said that we are over there because of terrorist threats and its nuclear capabilities. I think the simple fact that they might decide to destroy their own oil reserves and or send the world economy in a tail spend is the answer. Have you heard of economics? Currently we spend on a average of $2000.00 a year on gasoline(thats if you have a car that can be filled up with 40.00 a tank! Multiply that by the amount of cars driven in the U.S. on a yearly basis an if the wrong Government takes over we will not only have kaos gas may be over $5.00 to $6.00 a gallon. Life as we know it would definately be over. As for the $$$ saved up ? They could develope the capability to send a missile this far. If the wrong people get a hold of the missile the Next 911 may not be able to be reported by the news because our deaths may be the news.

Iran is still a risk due to the fact that they support terrorism, allow terrorists to cross their border into Iraq to kill our soldiers and innocent civilians, give weapons to insurgents to kill our soldiers with and support Hezbollah with money, arms and people. I think every country that is a member of the UN has to report such things. But I am not sure.

Iran is a risk because they are at war with us. You don't know it and no one has the guts to come Right out and tell you but if you think about it.

Look they attacked us in 79 by taking our diplomats hostage, This is an act of war.

We have done nothing but cut off diplomacy with them since then.

They have shipped arms into Iraq to be used against us.

They have trained Iraqis who have been fighting against us.

They even trained suicide bombers to attack our troops.

Their President is a nutcase who wants to destroy Israel, just because they are Israel.

And you wonder why they are a threat?

It is a sad day when Americans are willing to side with Iran and give the benefit of the doubt to an evil man like the president of Iran just because their political alignments with the Democrats.

He is an evil man. He wants to restart the nuclear program to develop missiles. He hates Israel and the US and wants to attack them.

Are you willing to say you are sure I am wrong, and he is not enriching uranium for this purpose?

Cinnabuns - Please don't let your hatred for Bush blind you. Iran has the capability to launch a nuclear attack if they have the enriched uranium... that is a fact...

Well, I guess it all come down to trust.

If you want to trust the people who kidnapped 52 American and held the for 444 days against their will, who are ruled by a man who doesn't believe the holocaust happened and has threatened to wage war on the US, then sure. Go ahead and trust them.
