a sorority is a group of female college students who come together after what is often a very selective process by senior members. The different types are social and service, the social ones exist for parties, mixers, etc. and the service ones exist for community service reasons but they have social aspects as well.
They are female versions of fraternities and originated in the 1800's. The names are derived from letters of the Greek alphabet.

it's an all girl organization usually supported by the collegiate system. there are different ones where each offers a different environment. some are by ethnic background, grade point averages, looks, etc. if you don't know anyone, it's a great way to make quick friends. there is a fee to join though. plus, after college you do have some perks by mentioning the sorority you were apart of- it does open doors when other members are in those positions.

The terms "fraternity" and "sorority" (from the Latin words frater and soror, meaning "brother" and "sister" respectively) may be used to describe many social and charitable organizations, for example the Lions Club, Sigma Chi, Rotary International, Optimist International, or the Shriners. In the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, however, fraternities and sororities are most commonly known as social organizations for secondary or higher education students.

A sorority is a sisterhood. It is a group of women who share the same basic ideas and goals, yet respect each other's individual differences. Sororities were founded upon, and still live by, the precepts of wisdom, truth, self-esteem, loyalty, and friendship. Involvement in a sorority also provides its members with many opportunities to develop leadership skills, become involved with community service projects, enjoy social functions, and acheive academic excellence. The wide variety of opportunities available allows each woman to participate in activities that are of particular interest to her and to discover new activities through her sisters. Membership in a sorority provides life long friendship and support

A sorority is a group of girls in college, that live together and live as sisters, and hold meetings, and help with homework, and sometimes help with community projects and things. Just depends on which one you are in.

Soroirty is a group of woman that belong to a club like thing in college or university. My girlfriend started one in her university and it is really great. They have parties, other events. They also like to give back to the community. They do a chirstamas toy drive and march of dimes. It is a good way to make life long friens in college. She graduated a year ago and she invited all of them to our wedding.

In most colleges and universities in the USA, they are groups of women who live in the same (large) house and eat together. Some are Jewish, some are Christian, some don't make religious distinctions. Some are more stuck-up than others. Like any organization, they differ, and opinions about them differ.

When I was in college, 40 years ago, Delta Delta Delta ("Tri-Delt") had the reputation of attracting women who were drop-dead gorgeous and not particularly bright. If you are DDG, you'd fit right in, since you don't seem to be able to spell. If you are ugly, forget it.

Pinky, for girls only. . .no boys in the group, not even gays or shehes. Know their goals and objectives before you sign up for one. Why do you need one, anyway? Friends, true firends should always be there for each other. Not always found in sororities.
