I am a u.s citizen and i saw this really interesting documentary on PBS:
The Anti-Americans: A hate/love relationship
I loved the movie it was funny and sad, it also showed political views as well as social views from British, Polish, French, etc. people.

GLOBAL VIEW OF UNITED STATES' ROLE IN
WORLD AFFAIRS

1.)
Great Britain: A majority (57%) continues to see US influence in the world as mainly negative, while just 33 percent sees US influence as mainly positive—down slightly from 36 percent in 2006.
2 .)
France: French views of the United States remain quite negative, showing little change over the previous year after sharply worsening from 2005 to 2006. Seven in ten (69%) say the US is having a mainly negative influence in the world, only slightly greater than the 65 percent who held this view in 2006.

I have found that when inside their own country, Americans are very friendly, pleasant, polite people. I don't mind visiting the states at all.

However, any encounters I've had or witnessed of Americans outside of their own country have been negative. I have found them to be rude, ignorant (yet opinionated!),and very LOUD.

It reminds me of children who behave at home, but act up at a friend's house...

On an individual basis, the Americans I have met have been wonderful (although a bit of a sweeping statement - every country has its fair share of idiots, and your president seems to sum that up quite nicely).

The relationship between Tony Blair and George Bush has done little to improve the UK's perception of America. I think there is an overall feeling that America is a very insular nation and there is a stereotype that you're all gas-guzzling, fast-food addicts (not a personal opinion!). Of course, there are stereotypes about every nation (as a Brit, I'm sure most people think we all talk like Hugh Grant and wear bowler hats...!).

I would have thought that the 'majority' in Great Britain see your government's influence in the world as negative (unfortunately, a sentiment I echo - oil wars, kyoto agreement etc), but that certainly does not mean we have a negative perception of American people. The UK were also led into a questionable war by a government that didn't listen to the public - but we're now rid of Blair. Might be time to say bye bye to Bush?

maximum White individuals are organic eu descent, yet i might say as much as a million/3 have some small lines of community American or perhaps African ancestry. Even in those situations the community American ancestry is nearly a million/sixteen or much less and extremely distant. the common American White is a mixture of somewhat some eu nationalities alongside with English, German, Irish and Italian. the rationalization American Whites look distinctive from eu Whites is because of the fact American Whites are oftentimes a mixture of distinctive eu nationalities.

I have been to the USA many times, both for business and pleasure. I like American people very much. Usually what you see is what you get. I have always found them to be warm, generous and open hearted people. I have reservations about some of their Global activities, but then so do I about some of our UK activities both current and historic. I can't agree with their obsession with firearms and fast food either but again, here in the UK we are heading down the same road. I try never to generalise about any race; there are good and bad in any race or creed. All in all, I like Americans very much.

every race or nationality has a good and bad side, not only americans but also other races, im from the philippines and we have been colonized and influenced by different countries..... america, spain, china, and japan.....all these four, but america and spain made most considering their longer stay than the other two....for me both gave a negative and a positive change to our race.....wha ti mean is that america is just the same as other races....what matters most is on how people deal with these "influence thing", if they embrace it or let go of it as if no one came to offer a change....

I have nothing personal with the Americans but the general feeling of the USA to me in the UK is

gas guzzling cars

fast food (the 1million cal chichen and burger type)

All guns blazing attitude to creating peace.

If you got OIL we want it at any cost (usually to the owners)

If you got problems, don't worry we will totally mess you up.

shrinks for everyone

you can not come here legit , but we will hire you (bit like us now)

If you can not browse the net all day in your job , its a bad job.

Street Gangs (this is getting bad here now as well)

money orientated place

I'm sure we will continue to be allies when it comes to war but i don't like how the UK is becoming more like the USA every year (guns, knifes, gangs, crime......)

PS. don't worry about the French they think the same of us as well.

Do you want my honest answer?

OK well here goes:

The majority of Americans I feel are good decent citizens, and that includes those who have settled there ie the hispanics and the black Americans etc. What annoys me about the American populus is their annoying habit of being too far up their own *** to realise what a prat their being. I'm not saying all Americans are like that but unfortunately a minority are, and its that minority that spoil it for the rest.

I've heard about what other cultures think of us, and as an American living in America and surrounded by other Americans...

...Most of those views are justified D: But just for the record, we're not ALL like that. For one thing, I'm phonophobic, and I hate it when people get loud. And mouthy.

Every American I've met has been cool, although the government seem like a bunch of dicks.

James as a Brit where the hell do you get off slagging off an American for stealing other people's countries?!

I think they believe in themselves - their confidence is sometimes mistaken for arrogance - i see it as confidence and belief in themselves and their right to prosperity in every area of their lives
They live in the land of the *FREE* and pursue their dreams, which i admire.
I'm full of admiration for Americans.

Just to add - i hope you will always be with us in the UK - b/c in times like these we need your support...
Scottish girl - part of the UK....
