They both are good. The Gene Wilder version will always be a classic and is probably more appropriate for younger kids to watch. HOWEVER... The more recent version I think is truer to the original story in the book and for that reason the better adaptation. It is much darker and has that underlying sinister edge that the book had.
edit: Did you deliberately mispell Wonka as Wonker on the Depp version? Not nice!

The original was the best. And I'm a big Johnny Depp fan. Imagine if they remade the godfather.... fuhgetaboudit!

The new one, it was more true to the book and didn't come up with lame plot twists that had nothing to do with the wonderfully imagined book. Dahl hated the original, the new one would have made him proud.

The original had a headless chicken,but besides that it was okay.The one with Johnny Depp?A little out there.

the new one is closer to the book and johnny was really cool in it but i will never stop loving the original :) but saying that i can't decide what is better they are both equal in my eyes

I think because i sqw the original one first, watching the 2nd one made me think it was worse because it was so different, but if it was the other way around i'm sure my outlook would change
