Scientists actually did a project in the 80's...they had a group of people each send a package to a stranger across the country, and it was found that they all knew the people by association... 6 degrees or less. Stanley Milgram also did an experiment...it's fascinating, really. there's even a chart that shows, mathematically, that we're all connected.

Six degrees of separation ~ refers to the idea that, if a person is one "step" away from each person he or she knows and two "steps" away from each person who is known by one of the people he or she knows, then everyone is no more than six "steps" away from each person on Earth. Several studies, such as Milgram's small world experiment, have been conducted to empirically measure this connectedness. While the exact number of links between people differs depending on the population measured, it is generally found to be relatively small. Hence, six degrees of separation is somewhat synonymous with the idea of the "small world" phenomenon.

There's really no proof... its just that X person knows X person who knows X person who knows X person.. so on until it's 6 people... Some people can tie together an average joe blow 6 times to a celebrity (aka 'Kevin Bacon') search it on Wikipedia...

i totally believe it, except i think it's usually more like 20 or 50 degrees. no proof, just a hope that the world is that small.

I love it too. I think someone did some sort of experiment or study and that's why it's six degrees.

STP is a significant band in the grunge/option circulate of the Eighteen Nineties, alongside with Nirvana, who became into infamously parodied by using strange Al Yankovic, who did a music with guitars by using Dweezil Zappa, who's the son of Frank Zappa.
