What a great start for Ovechkin (20 goals; 32 points)

Leonsis has already stated that he will match any offer.

It's not up to Ovechkin until he's 25. It's up to Washington.

As for a great start.............he's on pace to have a similar season as last year points wise...........which is still a lot worse than his rookie year.

Bob, Ovechkin will become an UFA at noon of July 1st, 2012 (contract extensions notwithstanding) ................and in his case, he'll be 26, but 27 when the season starts. He's got the Tavares issue (Ovechkin's birthday is the 17th of September)

This depends on Ovechkin, is he invested in the Caps and does he want to stay and see them do well. Or is he the kind of player who would like a trade to a better team where he can show case his talents. Personally he has never made a comment about getting out of Washington, to my knowledge anyway. However, he is still so young and players don't generally request a trade to a team they have a shot to win the cup with until they are reaching the end of his career, and he most certainly is not.

I however would love to see him on a different team, then maybe he would prove how valuable he can be to a good team.

Edit: Thats Lity i didn't know he was on contract till he was 25.

Yeah. There is just no way they'll let a player like Ovechkin go. The deal WILL get done the question is only when and how much.

LITY's right (of course!) that Ted Leonsis said he'd match any offer. So being a RFA, not a UFA, Ovechkin will probably stay in Washington. But still...

Get him to be a Team Player, If the Caps let him go its because they have NO Meaning of Teamwork on the Team.

If abe was still the owner, then no, he would be gone ricky tick. Historically the caps have not been able to keep big name players for long. but then again leonsis hasnt had too many to deal with. if ovechkin stays longer than one renewal it would be a shock to me.

really they have to if they want to have any light at the end of the tunnel for their team. not to say they have a chance this season but a couple in the tank and some good draft picks should do for Washington what all those bad years did for Chicago and Pittsburgh

LITY- I thought it was 27? I thought it was 27 years old or 7 years in the league? Therefore, Crosby at 25 but Ovechkin at 27? I may be wrong, please clarify for me.
