6 weeks is so short a time ...

but, how do you find out just how much you will get from disability insurance? My employer says it's the state that will pay based on how much is taken out of my check for disability. Who do I call?

Thanks!

Are you sure the state is paying it? Usually maternity leave is covered under your employers short term disability plan. Vaginal deliveries are considered a 6 week disability 99% of the time, and your indivudual employer decides how much of your salary you will be paid during this time. That amount is usually determined by your pay rate and time on the job. Also, it is up to your employer to decide if you are allowed to take additinal time off unpaid.

Call HR and ask for the number for the insurer, so that you can find out. You should be able to find out in advance, so that you can plan.

While I know most states do not pay maternity out of disability insurance, if you work for the state, sometimes it does. Only you would know.

I live in CA and I believe it's 75% of the average of your last 3 paychecks. I forgot.
