You don't want to spend more than $5 on a gift for a teacher - other teachers and school officials may think something inappropriate is going on. Unfortunate but true.
A gift card (to a bookstore), Movie pass, or small trinket is really nice.
But teachers really get weird when you get them gifts. Some like them and some don't.
Because you share a birthday, he may feel bad if he doesn't get you anything. A really nice card would be really good and doesn't then give him reason to think that there is something more than sharing a birthday and liking his class. Be sure to tell him what he means to you as a teacher - that is something all teachers love.

It has to be something appropriate..which means impersonal I'm afraid. The most personal I would risk would be a high quality writing pad of paper made from something other than trees..cotton paper ha a lovely feel and takes writing well an should appeal to the scientist in him. For impersonal but appreciated...a box of chocolates or a good box or tin of biscuits that he can hand around in the teacher's lounge.

Oh, science? Sorry NO OFFENCE, i hate science, I'm a math person ^^. [ Back on track ]... a teacher... a present... hmm... difficult. I'm not good at buying grownups presents. :o. A gift card? For teachers, during the time I'm in their class i learn more about them. My last year's teacher LOVED uno. So i got her a deck of uno cards for Christmas. :D. And my friend gave her a $50 gift card... okay but anyways, be creative! You could make something? My friend is a really good artist, so he just draws for presents. My other friend painted a picture in art class. Like i said before:
BE CREATIVE. <333 good luck. :D.

Well... you don't want to get too personal with a teacher. So... I would pick something that isn't as personal. A gift card to target, McDonalds, Barnes and Noble(? any bookstore there is), a restaurant, a flower, a mixed cd made by you, there's a lot of ideas.

it was nice of him to give you a break , but in the end, it's not doing you any favor, you will learn less.
however, if you want to get him something, get him a gift card to somewhere interesting like a book store.
from experience, i know that teachers get soooo many gifts they will never use, let alone find room for.

Find out if he has a favorite resturant and get him a gift certificate large enough for him and his significant other, wife/ girlfriend to go have a nice dinner. Olive Garden, Applebees, any thing other than fast food.

Write what you said in your question on a thank you card. Those are my favorite presents! I promise, it will mean a lot to him.
