If their trade with the Marlins goes through, they have a good chance.

"Now the Tigers boast the scariest lineup in baseball, with Curtis Granderson leading off, Placido Polanco hitting second, Cabrera, Magglio Ordonez, Gary Sheffield, Carlos Guillen, Renteria, Ivan Rodriguez and a platoon or Jacque Jones and Marcus Thames."

It's hard to say their not. The just to work on their awful bullpen. Easily puts them up there with the Angels and Red Sox. The Yankees are basically the same team as last year, and the Indians I really don't think their an "elite" team, but a good team.

Edit: and to the guy who mentioned Santana, Detroit does well against Johan they beat him five out of six starts against him.

As a huge baseball fan, I pride myself on being able to keep track of this and that, and have a real good sense of player value. After reading the details of that trade, I am SHOCKED the Marlins gave away their two stars like that. They could have acquired much better players, and even better prospects in seperate deals. I know the Marlins have won twice recently, but Tiger fans must be loving this deal. Their farm system is now somewhat bare after this and another deal cited in the linked Yahoo article, but a lot has to be said for wanting to win now. The Twins will be weaker, and the Indians never can seem to hold it together long enough.... wow... Tigers.... who knew?

Caution here... Cabrera will hit worse in that stadium. So as long as the fans understand that, he should have a good season. Willis may just nead a change of scenery, and a home crowd worth counting.

When are you people going to learn? Pitching wins championships, not offense. If the Red Sox get Santana, all these trades will be to see who comes in second.

I think they will have to many players and wont be able to play right. Dont think its true? Just look at the yankees with the highest pay roll in all of baseball and tell me how they lose. Everyone is trying to be the star and have the best stats in a TEAM game.

Definitely a scary line-up. Now if they can get some injury-free consistent pitching to go with it.
