Look in your tray for the icon, and open the icon and make sure that you have Mcafee turned on. Perhaps you have turned off Mcafee by mistake. Then run a scan. If it still will not scan, I suggest that you reinstall from the disk if you have one. or re-download if you purchased and have the registration key. The problem should be resolved either way I hope.

Another question, not an answer. I think that my registration expired and my computer was zapped with something yesterday disabling my virus scan which now needs to be reinstalled. Problem is that every time I cllick on a link for a Mcafee site, including the links that came in their previous e mails, I can't get into their site, getting an error page or it won't accept any of my e-mail addresses from their help pages. Any ideas other than a phone call maybe? Can I uninstall and myabe purchase a newer version?

Check that your subscription has not expired. IF it has the program will disable itself until you renew.

If you have a good subscription. Open the Security Center by right clicking on the McAfee icon in the tray by the clock and selecting security center.

The security center should report that the anti virus is not on, and offer to fix this. Tell it to do so.

IF it thinks the virus scanner is on, but it shows a black icon in the task bar, there is a bug that can be fixed by downloading a patch from McAfee. Go to the McAfee web site and search for Black Icon in the help sections. It will direct you to the patch which should fix the problem.

it will be in the setting of the program and you should be able to set time to run scan's , quick, full, or custom, then you should have a hyper link to run a manual scan when you like or suspect a virus. read the book that came with the program or if it has a tutorial in the help screen. Then thinking this should have all been done during install, it should have check your system, and on completion of install wanted to run a full scan? try uninstall and reinstall running it again. If it fails again take it back to mcafee, or where you purchased it.
