Glad she was released eventually, but doesnt this show how Muslims cannot even take a small insight, critism or joke towards their religon without giving someone "40 lashings". I mean its not an uncommon name, a huge amout of people are called that but if this happened in a Christian country and someone called a bear Jesus, Nothing would have happened. You dont see other religons attempting to give capital punishment to people.

Anyway, why did this Teacher nearly get punished when it was the children naming the bear?

Basically i just need to know why only certain countrys can get away with stuff like this?

Sudan is extremely corrupt. It is the country of the Darfur genocide. That should tell you a little about how the government operates there.
The school had a dispute with the government over taxes. This was probably just their way of punishing the school. The masses of protesters who agitated for the death penalty were either intimidated or bribed or maybe too ignorant to evaluate what was going on.
Sudan can get away with this because it is a sovereign country and nobody else has authority over its national government. Only, Sudan's national government is hardly worthy of the name. Nevertheless, other countries are reluctant to intervene.

i imagine everybody's lacking the point the following. the genuine problem the following is this entire fiasco has given teddy bears a nasty call. Realistically, if human beings might want to be observed as this, why no longer Teddy's who're plenty a lot less probable to carry shame on the call. both the TD maniacs are out in rigidity or unhappy Muslims are taking up this website reminiscent of they are taking up the united kingdom somewhat!

most of the countries around the world can get away with stuff like this.

We find it shocking. Unbelievable. Its nothing for the people who live in these countries. if it didn't get press, this woman probably would have been raped by 50 men, as punishment for offending their imaginary god, and then killed.

God Bless America, and their continued fights against Tyrany and Oppession.

I mean can you really say that if it happened in a "christian" country nothing would happen? I mean obviously if it happened in the US there would be no lashes, but I'm sure it would be a hot topic in the news as pc as we are these days. What gets me is that the bear wasn't even named after the Deity, he was named after a kid in the class!

I was shocked and confused too. I thought Muhammed was one of the most popular names in the world. I'm not really sure how a teddy bear can be insulting. I'm glad she was freed to return home.

I am so pleased she has been released, but I am worried about her safety now, as I read radical muslims in Britain are baying for her blood now, and I think she will need protection, as our stupid government will not act.

Incidentally, I read today, that our nurses are to stop what they are doing, to turn muslim patients bed's ( in OUR hospitals ) towards mecca 5 times a day. OHH!!! OUR STUPID COUNTRY!!!

Well, as I sit here at my computer (which happens to be named Muhammed) I am reminded that much of the world and it's people have become a bunch of candy-asses.
If people simply told the extremists to go screw themselves, instead of trying to understand them, things might possibly be different on our little planet.

I really like Steven A's answer with one exception. They are born pissed, live pissed and apparently die happy only if they take innocent people with them.
Strange lot those muslims.

the SUDAN government has lots of people to kill, torture and rape out in Darfur---they have lots of stuff going on----this woman is lucky they didn't just be-head her in front of the children, and broadcast it live on youtube.
