Please compare it to other cities like Laguna, who has similiar features like Baguio, but aren't given the title.

Baguio deserves it "Summer Capital" title because it is always cooler by an average 10 degrees Celsius versus Manila, and by an average 5 degrees Celsius than its closest competitor, Tagaytay.

Thus, you could get a cool 19 in Manila, and actually chill at 9 or 10 degrees Celsius in Baguio.

In summer when Metro Manila is frying at 34-36 celsius, Baguio would be comfortable at highs of 24-26, which is still the normal "room temperature".

Baguio City sits on a high altitude, and, especially in John Hay, is made cooler with lots and lots of pine trees and other evergreens. Thus, the temperature will always be cooler, and therefore deserving of its "Summer Capital" title.

It is still the summer capital and will always be . Getting there is hassle free if you know what time of day you travel , very early that you reach Naguillan road like 6 AM , so the drive up is easy and cool. Boracay could never replace Baguio because of the tons of money you need to get there and stay there. In Baguio a family of five could enjoy three day stay in transient houses that provides decent accommodation, cool like USA weather on summer , enjoy eating out and buying those jams, have tons of picture taken at a cost of 6,000 pesos .
The crowd completes the fun and the native people of Baguio are so hospitable and the church completes our being Filipino enjoying what nature and man can offer.

During the summertime here in the Philippines there are only 2 places to go to escape the summer heat. Beach and Baguio.

What beach? Where? Dakak? El nido? Boracay? Batangas? Subic?

Baguio? still baguio. It still deserves to be the Summer Capital of the Philippines.

You have to realize that apart from the nice sceneries, tourist vacations, inexpensive 'pasalubong' items, and friendly locals, Baguio City has the coolest climate in the Philippines even in Summers. This earned Baguio City the "Summer Capital of the Philippines" since most people want to stay 'cool' in times like that (summer) than to be burnt under the sun in beaches.

Well, if we lose visitors in this place, it can lose its title being the country's summer capital. The place may have been inconsiderately polluted but it stil has a lot to offer like the products mainly produced in Baguio and La Trinidad, scenery, climate, culture, etc.

Yes. And it would take more than a law to strip Baguio City off of it's title as the Summer Capital of the Philippines. The city has also been declared as Convention Capital in June 2006.

Baguio City is home to many tourist spots and is a weekend getaway of those living in Metro Manila. Baguio City remains a prime tourist destination area in North Luzon because of its cool climate, fresh, green and peaceful environment unlike other tourist destinations in the Philippines. This makes it a favorite destination especially for those who would like to relax and stay away from the excessive heat of the lowlands and also a favorite venue of seminars and conferences.

Baguio is the midway to the wonders of Northern Luzon. The calm beaches of La Union; the fabled Hundred Islands of Pangasinan; the ancient churches, Spanish influenced houses, historical and cultural relics of Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte and is also the gateway to the Cordilleras where you could find the world famous Banaue Rice Terraces in Ifugao; the Kabayan mummy caves of Benguet; and the distinct culture and colorful traditions of the tribes of Benguet, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Kalinga, Apayao and Abra.

The name Baguio conjures, for both the international and domestic traveler, a highland retreat in the Grand Cordillera in Northern Luzon, with pine trees, crisp cold breezes and low luxuriant knolls and hillocks. Through the numerous decades Baguio has morphed from what was once a grassy marshland into one of the cleanest and greenest, most highly developed cities in the country. It has made its mark as an opening tourist destination in the Northern part of the Philippines with its cool climate, foggy hills, panoramic views and lovely flowers. Being the ideal union zone of neighboring highland places, Baguio is the melting pot of different peoples and cultures and has enhanced its ability to provide a center for education for its neighbors. Its rich culture and countless resources have attracted numerous investments and business opportunities to the city.

Baguio City, the Summer Capital of the Philippines promises a harbor to anyone who seeks its comfort where you could leave all your cares behind. With its numerous tourist attractions and panoramic scenes and refreshing pine scented fresh air it seeks to provide a relief to any traveler, a hideaway to the romantics and breather to the weariest soul. Encapsulate this one of a kind feeling as you look around through the stunning and exciting scenes of the Summer Capital of the Philippines.

they're opening up roads that lead to inner La Trinidad province, Baguio government accepts the fact that they're over crowded. I was once in a place called Bauko, kilometers away from Baguio City, where I literally walked on clouds. It was last summer and the temperature was 13 degree celsius!!

I think that that title should be stripped off from Baguio.
No offense meant.

Obviously NOT !!! I remember going to Baguio every summer when I was growing up. I went back to visit last 2003 with my family, got stuck for hours on Naguilian Road trying to
get in and found the city proper so filthy and the air polluted.
Divisoria looks even better.

Yes of course! It's still the coolest place in the entire country during the hot summer months and still a favorite destination among the locals and therefore still deserving of its title "Summer Capital of the Philippines."
