Real, patriotic war heroes scare and intimidate Republicans. They feel MUCH more comfortable with faux "war heros" such as Dubya, who couldn't even finish his National Guard obligation (which he joined to avoid service in Vietnam).
If you look at the following link, it shows you just which party has the honorable veterans and which party has the war dodgers and deferment junkies.
http://www.awolbush.com/whoserved.html
The interesting thing about this list is how Republicans who don't even know with which hand one SALUTES the troops are more than willing to call REAL veterans such as the two you mention as well as John Murtha "Communists" and "cowards", while taking deferment after deferment, avoiding military service at ANY cost.
Another interesting point is, how many of these "Troops supporters" joined the military AFTER the US invaded Iraq? If there were a draft instituted right NOW, ALL of them would find a way to get out of it, usuually by saying something like, I don't have to fight to support the troops, I just have to support cutting their pay and benefits.

What does supporting the troops currently in harms way have to do with John Kerry or John McCain? I thank Senators Kerry and McCain for their service to our country. That does not mean I support or supported everything they have done since.
Support our troops, NOW!

If you want an idea how much the Republicans respect the military and the medals we've earned you should have watched the 2004 Republican convention. You would have seen the chickenhawk delegates mock the Purple Heart and the military. It was disgraceful.
By questioning the authenticity of Kerry's medals people like Bob, Mr. Knowledge, and the Swift Boat Liars are questioning the integrity of the US Military and how medals are awarded. When they do this they are degrading the medals earned by Duncan Hunter, John McCain, myself, and all my fellow veterans.

In 2000 Rove and Bush destroyed McCain's credibility in the south by distributing leaflets that he had a "dark skinned" child and other nonsense. McCain never had a chance for the nomination against the Bush PR attack machine. In 2004 they did the same thing to Kerry, they dishonored him in the court of public opinion by throwing their money behind blatant lies. It didn't matter that Bush and his attack machine were wrong both times they did this, what mattered was they had suckered the weak and unintelligent into believing the wrong information.
People are largely stupid and don't think too deeply on certain matters, they do whatever the corporate owned media tells them to do.

John McCain is a man to be admired, I simply didn't like his politics. John Kerry on the other hand, spent little time in Vietnam, his wounds were superficial, hardly warranting a Purple Heart. One has to wonder why he was awarded the Silver Star and Bronze Star, but hero, absolutely not, traitor is more the word for Kerry.

He have been given nominated by means of fact the mass media positioned his opposition in a extra damaging easy. He became into their darling on the time. he's in comparison to Kerry. He became into an honestly platform and does not come off like an elitist @ss. are you able to tell me one particular ingredient Kerry became into going to do if elected? if so I in no way heard them on an identical time as he became into campaigning. a fabulous variety of folk like me have been on the fence desperately waiting for him to show he had the imaginative and prescient to run the rustic and he could no longer grant.

Because a vote for president isn't about voting for the troop you support most, it is about choosing a figurehead and leader for our country. Although I support McCain for his military service, I don't feel he is the best candidate for president.

''Support the troops" is just another one of those badgering statements attempting to force everyone into pseudo patriotism. In the last thirty years of Republican rhetoric and grandstanding we've seen plenty of military extravagance, but funding going to provide soldiers with necessities of combat, health care and quality of life issues continue to dwindle.

Of the two, only McCain's campaigning for votes. Kerry isn't running for anything. What was your point, anyway?
