(Psst.....your American narrow mindedness is showing.) Because they are not US companies. McDonalds Canada is a legally separate company from McDonalds USA in much the same way as McDonalds Australia and McDonalds New Zealand is. As a result, McDonalds Canada has the maple leaf, McDonalds Australia has had a kangaroo and McDonalds NZ has had a small Kiwi bird. Even McDonalds in Hawaii has used different logos over the years with native flowers in the crotch of the "M". Many US founded business that branch off to other countries use different logos or slightly modified logos so that customers know they are dealing with the local company OR to satisfy national branding laws. Not only does it put a local connection on the company but it also protects the larger US based company from legal action. India for example, they have laws that limit the amount of foreign ownership in companies there regardless of who they are. Its for that reason that Coke was not allowed to be sold in the country until the mid/late 90s and that Pepsi was bottled under the "Lahar Pepsi" brand.
