I mean...without wiping Iran off the map or something? How would one prevent a country from obtaining knowledge and technology that people figured out from scratch out over half a century ago?

I think Aggrega has it right. Israel can take care of it surgically with Intelligence, and it does not have to lead to a major conflict. But I know someone in Washington who seems to think they are top priority. I don't agree. If Iran wanted a nuke it could just get one from a friend, so what's the big deal?

It could certainly be stopped, and without wiping Iran off the map. A surgical bomb strike targeted at the nuclear facility is one possibility that comes to mind. I am sure there are others.

When you think about all the countries that have atomic weapons.America, Britain, France, Pakistan,India ,China,Russia, and even Israel, with all these countries not one has been used in anger. It would take Iran a few years to perfect one and they have to test it somewhere. Yes it would be better if they did not have one but you could say the same about Pakistan,India and Israel who could be possible users.and without invading Iran there is no other way to stop them if they wanted to get one. I still think that Iran just need to build nuclear power stations. That's harmless enough if they get professional help

yes, israel will do it for us. Its in their interests for Iran not to get a nuke. They actually have better intelligence than the CIA could ever muster. If there ever was a threat, I am sure they would tactical nuke the facility.
So basically, the United States doesn't have to do anything.

No the states can't stop them, at best they can delay and withdraw goods from them. But the States cannot stop a rogue nation like that from gaining a nuclear bomb.

threaten them with serious consequences. and dont be afraid to follow through with them. that mad man can not be trusted with bomb. he has said he wants to destroy usa and israel. even if it means forcing him to not get bomb. that is better than fighting him after he has bomb.
